Primary Purpose

The WCPO Internship program providesstudents real-world experience and a unique insight into newsroom operations. Gain industry and organizational knowledge through daily job assignments

Key Activities

  • Gain exposure to the industry
  • Conduct interviews
  • Research stories
  • Contributing story ideas
  • Writing broadcast news, including voice-overs and sound-to-tape
  • Shooting stories and stand-ups
  • Writing/editing news for the web
  • Taking photos and building slideshows
  • How a content management system works
  • How to track story page views online
  • Basic HTML code
  • Editing with Final Cut Pro digital software
  • Perform assigned duties as relating to the internship
  • Develop skills based on the area supporting
  • Other duties as assigned

Education & Experience/Certifications

  • High school diploma or equivalentrequired
  • Enrolled at an accredited college or university
  • Internships are intended to be positions thatare for a limited duration

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong desire to learn more about the industry
  • Ability to work with a team
  • Ability to follow directions

Work Environment

  • Normal work environment
  • May need to lift 75 pounds
