We are looking for a full-time IT Data Engineer/NoSQL DBAfor our headquarters in Olathe, Kansas. In this role, you will work on a Manufacturing Execution System (MES) responsible for assisting application teams build, support and implement solutions for Global Business. You will also work with our System Architects to identify the best possible data technology to support this evolving System. Other essential functions include:

  • Utilize multiple data technologies with a heavy focus on Hadoop and Cassandra

  • Interact with application, system, solution architects to design and implement appropriate data solution for the application needs

  • Educate and influence application teams to understand how their application will interact with the technology

  • Help drive innovation in and automation to address proactive monitoring to avoid incidents

  • Design and develop/support web, client and server-side applications and services as part of a structured Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) process

  • Enjoy reading about data technology with the ability to learn and teach on the fly, want to contribute to the design of how we support manufacturing Garmin products that lead the industry in multiple segments

  • Don't mind getting your hands dirty in legacy code that needs TLC in a variety of application languages (Python, Javascript, Java, etc)

  • Thrive in an agile environment and are happy to teach and learn from your teammates

  • Are interested in coming up with innovative solutions for complicated problems and are passionate about finding ways to do things better

  • Enjoy system administration/system engineering as much as data engineering

Qualified candidates will possess a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Business or another technology related field AND 2 years relevant experience. Other requirements include:

  • Demonstrated experience with Big Data technologies with some SQL Server or Oracle experience

  • Demonstrated proficiency and necessary experience in implementing data solutions related to building, designing, and upgrading on multiple Operating Systems

  • Strong understanding of Linux system administration

  • Experience with one more container platforms such as Docker, Kubernetes, Cloud Foundry, etc.
