JOB OVERVIEW

The NOVA Science Studio (NSS) Digital Producer will work as part of the NOVA Education team to develop and execute multimedia projects specifically digital video for the NOVA Science Studio, NOVA's youth science communication/journalism program.

The NSS Digital Producer should demonstrate: an ability to see projects through from conceptualization to execution, storytelling skills that can explain complex topics, and a track record of engaging young people with content that is accessible and relevant to their interests. The NSS Digital Producer should be able to strike a tonal balance consistent with NOVAs standards for accurate, fact-based science content while appealing to youthful curiosity through a creative visual style.

The Digital Producer should be adept at conceptualizing and producing dynamic video, graphics, and text treatments on a deadline and demonstrate an ability to communicate best practices for video production to young people. Finally, the NSS Digital Producer will be expected toprovide technical and editorial feedback to participating educators and students in the program

RESPONSIBILITIES

Research, produce, shoot, and edit video tutorials about science communication and video production designed for students and educators

  • Facilitate training for educators on best practices for short-form video production in person, via webinars, and through original video tutorials
  • Provide detailed editorial and technical feedback of student video projects at various stages of production

Collaborate with the NOVA Education team to update existing NSS curriculum and create new and dynamic educational resources

  • Design lesson plans related to video production for the NOVA Science Studio curriculum.

Ensure that all videos comply with all relevant platform rules and regulations, including WGBH and PBS policies. Ensure the acquisition of all necessary clearances and releases for the use of materials and maintain required records

  • Manage posting and archiving of all original tutorial content as well as student-produced videos

Participate in NOVA Science Studio outreach events and perform other promotion and outreach duties as assigned

SKILL SET

  • Demonstrated proficiency in science communication and education preferred.
  • Adept at using the Adobe Creative Suite, and well versed in the camera capabilities and functions of DSLRs and smartphones
  • Ability to work independently as well as intersect with an existing team juggling multiple deadlines
  • Effective communicator who is passionate about engaging underrepresented students in STEM and making science communication more inclusive and equitable

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelors degree in multimedia production, communications, or education. At least three to five years of qualifying experience in video production.
