A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major course of study in chemistry or biochemistry and two (2) years of professional chemical or biochemical experience; or

A master's degree from an accredited college or university with a major course of study in chemistry or biochemistry and one (1) year of professional experience as described above; or

A doctorate from an accredited college or university with a major course of study in chemistry or biochemistry.

Coordinate the bureaus Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) Program and assist the Laboratory Administrator/Quality Manager in the monitoring and verification of each locations implementation of the bureaus QC Program. Ensure quality measures are being implemented by assisting in the administration of the bureaus participation in proficiency testing programs whereby proficiency samples are properly and successfully analyzed; confirm that routine quality control procedures are adhered to; be responsible for method compliance and reviewing analysts procedures to ensure adherence to adopted methods.  Serve as one of the bureaus point of contact for matters relating to the operation of the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).

Analyze petroleum products to verify compliance with the latest American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) and/or state of Florida specifications using the appropriate methods and Standard Operating Procedures.  Utilize the bureau's LIMS to aide in the collection, analysis, review and authorization of analytical results, quality control system and other associated laboratory information. Report substandard products in a timely manner to the laboratory manager. Maintain, calibrate and operate analytical instrumentation to facilitate accurate and timely sample analyses. Maintain inventory of supplies and parts. Maintain a safe, organized and clean environment throughout assigned areas of responsibility.

Assist laboratory managers as requested to conduct daily work and fill in as the person-in-charge in their absence.  This will require being familiar with the overall operation of the laboratory and coordinating laboratory operations with the Laboratory Administrator or designee. Assist in the monitoring of analyses, data recording, and reporting for all types of fuel samples and ensuring that all samples are properly analyzed according to the appropriate ASTM and/or screening methods. Be familiar with Florida law as it relates to fuel testing and specifications.  Be thoroughly familiar with the latest test methods, procedures, equipment changes, and fuel specifications.  Recommend and oversee maintenance, calibration, and repair of equipment.  Assist in the training of any present or new employees. 

Assist laboratories and management on needed specifications, ordering and set up of equipment.  This will include writing of specifications and research to determine the maximum efficiency and requirements to perform a given task and to meet appropriate ASTM methods. 

Perform other related duties such as, but not limited to, administrative paperwork, shipping/receiving, sample custody and other non-technical duties as required by management.
