Georgia-Pacific is currently seeking an Area Leader/Superintendent for our Paper Machine Department in the Monticello, MS Paper Mill. This position reports directly to the mill Production Leader and will be responsible for managing a department of over 75 employees (salaried and hourly) including many of whom work a twelve-hour shift rotation. Monticello, Mississippi is an hour South of Jackson, MS and an hour Northwest of Hattiesburg, MS. Georgia Pacific Monticello is a stable employer on 2,200 acres which employs 450 employees.

The successful candidate will have leadership responsibility for the safe and environmentally compliant operation of Paper Machine Operations. Incumbent provides leadership and strategic direction to the facility through the application of our Market Based Management (MBM) Philosophy.

A Day In The Life Typically Includes:
People: Effectively manage area personnel
  • Accountable for employee and organizational development plans and people management strategies in the Paper Machine area.

  • Exhibits strong leadership skills to motivate and develop a team of salaried and hourly employees to continuously improve performance of the business.
Operations Excellence: Manage area operations in order to achieve Compliance and Production goals
  • Responsible for the overall Paper Machine operations with two paper machines in reliability of the area assets and using reliability concepts (i.e. root cause failure analysis, operator basic care, PMs, etc.) and critical thinking skills to effectively troubleshoot and solve complex operating issues.

  • Drive mill initiatives of plant metrics of The Bet/Scorecard.

  • Lead and participate on teams for continuous improvement efforts.

  • Support the processes of investigating, recommending, and implementing new technologies and process upgrades in Paper Machine area.

  • Understands and communicates goals in the area of quality and production.

  • Collaborates and knowledge shares with other departments across mill and other levels within the organization to ensure success of operational goals.

  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency and accountability in:
    • Safety and Housekeeping

    • Prioritizing and processing work

    • Supporting routine and annual outages

    • Planning, assigning, and providing follow-up of work
Safety & Compliance: Commitment to environmental, health, & safety excellence
  • Provides strategic leadership to achieve key operation objectives in safety, environmental compliance, reliability, production and cost.

  • Acquires and shares knowledge of applicable standards, policies, and procedures in areas of EH&S, ensures department achieves compliance with corporate and governmental policies and regulations.

  • Drives a safety-focused culture, regularly engages in and encourages safety participation amongst crew including facilitatingsafety meetings.

  • Monitors housekeeping, critical hazards, andsafety systems. Leads and instills a strong safety and environmental compliance culture.

  • Lead team of supervisors and highly skilled technicians in a fast paced, high energy environment.

  • Connect team to creating value for the company.

What Will You Need?
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Paper Science or other technical discipline OR10+ years of progressive responsibility in Pulp & Paper or Manufacturing.

  • 5 years of experience in a Paper and Pulp Manufacturing facility.

  • Minimum of5 years of supervisory experience in a production or manufacturing environment.
What Will Put You Ahead?
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in management at a Pulp and Paper facility

  • Experience in Union environment preferred
