Position Description:


The Senior Payroll Administrator is responsible for the administration of all activities related to the payroll function within the organization. The position serves as the first line of service for employee questions and transactions related to pay, taxation, deductions, disability/leave management, timekeeping, record management, benefit enrollment/election, and termination of employment. The position is also responsible for assisting in the development of junior payroll staff, basic reporting and accounting functions to include limited audit, invoicing, and bill payment transactions.


Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:


Perform all necessary processing of payroll transactions to include electronic employee record management, daily administration, troubleshooting, and compilation of electronic timekeeping data, required system maintenance, compilation of periodic incentive pay and retroactive overtime, operation of payroll software, generation of regular, manual, and instant checks, garnishment processing, and all transactions necessary for posting of payroll to Automatic Cash Handling (ACH) and General Ledger systems.


Transactional administration of all benefit and leave programs as related to payroll and requested / mandated leave (disability, FMLA, etc.).


Record Management (including, but not limited to: electronic and paper file management, compliance with Federal, State, and Local employment regulations, etc.)


Invoice / Bill Payment


Other duties as assigned (Including, but not limited to: audit participation, new hire processing, filing, employment verification, assisting in the development of Junior staff, routine system maintenance, regulatory compliance, custom reporting, etc.)


Minimum formal education required for this position:


High School Diploma


Preferred Education:


Undergraduate coursework in Bookkeeping, Accounting, Human Resource Management, or Business Administration


Minimum work experience:


8+ years relevant experience to include 3+ years specifically in a payroll function using computer-based processing methodologies


Technical or specialized knowledge/skills:


Knowledge of all legal requirements and guidelines relevant to compensation, taxation, benefit administration, and labor.


Strong command of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word


Strong math skills


Strong communication skills


Functional ability within Microsoft Outlook, Internet Explorer, and Microsoft Access


Experience using one or more computer/web based payroll processing software packages


Exposure to custom reporting software packages


Certifications required:


American Payroll Associations Certified Payroll Processor (CPP) strongly preferred.


Environmental, physical and psychological requirements:


Must be able to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to successfully communicate with others on a regular basis through traditional means such as telephone, email, and face-to-face interaction. Must be able to perform repetitive tasks for the purpose of data entry using traditional methods such as keyboard and mouse. Must be able to lift files or file boxes weighing no more than 40 lbs.
