We are seeking a Plant Accountant at our corrugated packaging facility in Martinsville, VA. The City of Martinsville is in south-central Virginia near the Blue Ridge Mountains and a short drive from Greensboro, NC.

A Day In The Life Typically Includes:




The Plant Accountant candidate must be able to able to work across departments and lead the monthly financial closing process, ensure proper internal controls are in place and working as designed, and support management with proactive financial analysis that drives improvement in results. This role offers the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience for future career growth and advancement throughout Georgia Pacific.



Fiduciary Responsibilities:

  • Internal financial control responsibility

  • Balance Sheet Account Reconciliations

  • Inventory Management

  • Month-end close process

  • Forecasting and Monthly Ad Hoc Reporting

  • Plant transactional systems oversight

  • Oversight of Invoicing, A/R and A/P

  • Records management



What You Will Need:



Education Required:


  • Bachelors degree or higher in Accounting, Finance or Business


Basic Qualifications:


  • Basic understanding of a General Ledger and Cost Accounting principles

  • Conceptual understanding of the design and purpose of internal controls

  • Aptitude and desire for learning new systems and improving processes through automation

  • Prior experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel spreadsheet creation/editing, pivot tables, data manipulation/analysis and formula creation etc., Access-query, and PowerPoint presentation creation/editing)

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Highly motivated, proactive, willingness to engage and partner

  • Strong customer focus with analytical, financial and economic thinking skills

  • Detail oriented with a strong focus on accuracy and attention to detail

  • Flexible and able to prioritize multiple tasks in a dynamic environment

  • Aptitude and desire for learning new systems and improving processes through automation

  • Good communication skills (written and verbal)

  • Ability to work in a team environment

  • Proven initiative and willingness to drive change, with a focus on innovation, process improvement and solvingproblems

  • Strong personal integrity and basic self-awareness and an understanding of how personal behavior impacts others


What Will Put You Ahead


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Accounting Courseworkthatincludes Intermediate Accounting and Cost Accounting

  • Minimum 3.0 GPA in Accounting Coursework

  • At leasttwo yearsof accounting or financial analysis experience

  • SAP, Infinium, Infor or large ERP experience preferred

  • Standard Costing experience

  • Inventory management experience

  • Experience as an Accountant or Analyst in a manufacturing environment

  • Experience providing timely information and service to internal business customers

  • Public Accounting, Large Company Corporate Accounting or Manufacturing Environment preferred
