Georgia-Pacific is now hiring a Press Support Operator for our Allendale, SC facility. The Press Support Operator position is responsible for assisting the Press Control Room Operator to ensure consistent operation in the press area. As a Press Operator you will be responsible for cleaning equipment to ensure a safe environment as well as conducting visual inspections to detect any issues with equipment in the press area. Additionally you will acquire the skills needed to advance into other keys roles in the facility. Key Responsibilities:
  • Adhere to all plant safety and environmental guidelines, policies and procedures

  • Conduct visual checks of equipment to detect any developing issues and advise Press Operator of any discoveries

  • Assist the Press Control Room Operator in troubleshooting production or quality issues on the production line

  • Assist Maintenance in troubleshooting any repetitive downtime issues by communicating any equipment performance issues

  • Use small tools such as blowers to remove debris from equipment and keep the press area clean

  • Maintain safe and consistent operation of blending, forming and pressing area equipment to produce quality products that meet the specifications set forth in the control plan

  • Learn various work processes to understand how they lead to increased productivity and reduced waste of useable product
Basic Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED

  • Experience using a computer for record-keeping and documentation function

  • Willing and able to work any shift including holidays, weekends and overtime as needed

  • Willing and able to change shifts when given short notice, (e.g. one days notice)

  • Willing and able to work in a hot, humid, cold, and noisy industrial environment

  • Willing and able to wear the necessary Personal Protection equipment (PPE) (i.e. hard hats, safety glasses, face shield, chemical suit, respirator, ear plugs, hearing protection, steel-toe boots or safety shoes and other PPE required by specific jobs)

  • Willing and able to perform tasks such as lifting, walking, climbing, stooping, standing, pushing and/or pulling for up to 12 hours a day

  • Willing to sign a confidentiality agreement as a condition of employment
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Three years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment

  • Experience operating manufacturing equipment

  • Experience in lumber or wood product

  • Experience operating a forklift
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Ability to work independently and consistently throughout entire shift

  • Ability to work safely and efficiently

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to learn to operator mobile equipment such as a sweeper, forklift and man lift

  • Ability to work in confined spaces to perform cleaning operations using water and fire hoses
