As the Principal Engineer responsible for building our Identity and Access Management (IAM) solution, you will be architecting and designing the IAM capabilities for Medtronic's offerings that alleviate pain, restore health and extend life for over 1.6M patients in 80 geographies using web, mobile and proprietary device clients providing data from implanted devices. You operate with a Test-Driven Development approach and have practical programming experience in at least one of Java, plus C#/C++/C. You have a track record of implementing software solutions leveraging AWS services such as EC2, ELB, RDS, Route53 and S3. You have a strong software development background, having implemented mission critical applications both as monolith and microservice based architectures leveraging CI/CD & agile based development practices. You have practical experience with SAML, OpenID Connect, and similar SSO protocols and have used them for building and extending authorization mechanisms. Ensuring the IAM solutions you build are operational is something you bring to the table every day. IAM is your area of expertise, but you have a passion for expanding into other areas within the security realm. A Day in the Life:

  • Work with our security architect and application architects to design a solution to deliver IAM capabilities for our web and mobile application suite while meeting overall cloud and security requirements.

  • Demonstrate your drive to tactical outcomes with tangible measurements.

  • Participate in development and review of code that defines our security policies and practices.

  • Work across organizational boundaries with IT and other groups, leveraging your cross-organizational relationships.

  • Demonstrate your ability to think strategically about business, product and technical challenges.


    Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or another technical field.

  • 7+ years of relevant experience

    Nice to Have:

  • 7+ years in technical lead/Architect roles for software development teams building mission critical cloud applications in an environment applying modern engineering practices (Lean, Agile, DevOps).

  • Current hands-on implementation experience required: individual contributors only.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills working with diverse audiences in both software development and traditional IT roles.

  • Excellent attitude and aptitude with demonstrated strategic mindset that can drive change.

  • Experience with security incident response management

  • Experience with Kubernetes, Active Directory and/or Kerberos, Open Policy Agent (OPA).

  • Operations and design in regulated environment.

  • Experience with clinical domain systems and standards (e.g. Epic, HL7)
