Serve as the primary finance partner and point of contact for our CS R&D and Finance leaders. Provide financial support and analysis by developing, maintaining and reporting on complex infrastructure and project spend of $30M+. This includes modeling and scenario planning for Strategic Plan, Annual Planning and Forecasting.

Role will primarily be out of our Brooklyn Park, MN location, with some days spent in Mounds View, MN.

A Day in the Life

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Month-end activities: execute standard period and quarter-end financial close activities (spending reviews and establishing what accruals are needed) as well as support business reviews through standard and ad-hoc reporting & analyses.
  • Financial modeling and Forecasting: partner with the cross-functional project leads to develop and maintain financial models for both forecasting and month-end accrual reconciliations, as well as updating the infrastructure forecasts for Cost Centers. Develop multiple scenarios for new projects, with NPV's and sensitivity analysis on cost and timing (when needed for new project funding decisions during Annual Planning and Strat Plan)
  • Reporting: update monthly and qtrly reporting for actuals and variances, along with refreshed projected spend, to proactively help drive our business partners towards alignment with their financial targets and goals
  • Influencing and leadership: develop and maintain strong relationships with key R&D Functional leaders and Finance partners across MDT, including operations and other MDT businesses. Actively participate in defining consistent processes for forecasting and financial accuracy accountability with these partners.
  • Educating and Training: Focus on helping our partners develop effective financial business acumen and train them on applicable finance policies (example: R&D Inventory Policy and Cost Center management)
  • Identify and drive process improvements
  • Special requests, projects, and financial presentations for management as required or requested

Must Have: Minimum Requirements


Bachelor's Degree with 7+ years of work experience in Finance and/or Accounting (5+ years with an Advanced degree)

Nice to Have

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel (including charts, pivot tables & lookup tables) and PowerPoint
  • Solid accounting (GAAP), financial and business management foundation
  • MBA/CPA/CMA - Finance and Accounting Knowledge
  • Medtronic business unit finance experience
  • Strong ability to work in financial/reporting systems (SAP, Hyperion, CMR, SPEND, BOXI)
  • Experience operating in a fast-paced, complex, matrix organization with various levels of management effectively influencing the decision-making process by taking initiative to communicate appropriate courses of action backed by sound financial analysis
  • Ability to manage and manipulate data, financial results and ideas to develop financial analysis and transform it into concise presentations for various level of management
  • Exhibit accountability and flexibility in taking on multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritizing effectively, managing tight time commitments and working independently in a high-paced environment full of changes and uncertainties
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment and build strong business partnering relationships across functions
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
