In this exciting role as a Principal IT Business Systems Analyst, you will have responsibility for managing the implementation of a component content management system (CCMS) for the Medtronic Diabetes Business Unit. This system integrates authoring, translating and automated composition of technical communication deliverables in approximately 40 languages. This role includes identifying industry standards, gathering and performing technical analysis of user requirements, creating and documenting designs that can be developed and tested to meet the requirements and documenting traceability to requirements of such solutions.

A Day in the Life

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • User requirements - Ensures that CCMS user requirements are well understood, documented and approved. Plan,

    conduct, and direct the analysis of complex technical communications problems to be solved using CCMS. Provide

    consultation to CCMS users.

  • Software design - Work with CCMS users and CCMS software engineers to design and document solutions to business

    needs and CCMS users' needs. Provide technical assistance in identifying, evaluating and developing systems and

    procedures that are cost-effective and meet user requirements.

  • Document analysis - Performs business and technical analysis of regulations and ensures a consistent content strategy

    is taken and communicated to strategically implement the requirements.

  • Testing - Executes unit testing of CCMS prototype software, to ensure adherence to design requirements. Participates in

    planning unit, integration and acceptance testing of CCMS software.

  • Documentation - Performs business and technical analysis to create and implement a systematic strategy for CCMS

    software design and development needs. Ensures that proposed/new document types and titles are implemented

    consistently in CCMS, inconsistencies are identified and negotiated, and all resulting commitments are documented and

    well understood.

  • System administration - Configures system settings and options.

  • User support - Provides second-tier support for CCMS users. Determines corrective and preventive actions for CCMS

    user support issues.

  • Leadership - Leads cross-functional linked teams to deploy new systems and address business or systems issues.

    Leads technical and process strategy for the maintenance of the platform.

    • Consults with business stakeholders to understand and evaluate current business processes and identify complex business problems and needs turning those needs into system requirements.
    • Provides technical expertise for system functional specifications and deploys new and current systems, processes and procedures in a cost effective manner.
    • May configure system settings and options; plan and execute unit, system, and integration testing to meet business requirements.
    • May lead cross-functional linked teams to address business or systems issues.

    Must Have: Minimum Requirements

    Bachelors degree with 7+ years of experience in quality, business analysis, technical writing and/or content management , or advanced degree with 5+ years or experience in quality, business analysis, technical writing and/or content management.

    Nice to Have

    Experience in Quality, business analysis, technical writing and/or content management

    Experience in single-source/database publishing

    Knowledge of technical writing and localization/translation profession and tools

    Experience using component content management systems such as Vasont, SDL Knowledge Center or Ixiasoft

    Familiarity with the DITA methodology

    Knowledge of page layout, typography and desktop publishing software

    Knowledge of graphics file formats and PDF handling

    Experience with online documentation and help systems

    Experience in and familiarity with audit compliance process in a regulated environment

    Experience with XML and XSL

    Experience with designing SQL queries and working with SQL databases in general
