The Principal Portfolio Architect is a highly strategic and technical member of the management team within Technology, an autonomous thought leader in framing and overseeing long term technical vision and strategy based on strong understanding of the business or economic environment for a line of business, and typically reports directly to a Director or Senior Director.

  • Shepherd the design and adoption of complex technical visions at the line of business/technology initiative level.
  • Analyze and synthesize the portfolios solution context to develop strategic implementation plans and designs, document and mitigate risks, and provide regular updates and proposals to senior management.
  • Ensure architects and technology delivery leads adhere to architectural principles for technical decision making such that trade-off decisions and assumptions are intentional, rational, and documented.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with other Technology leaders to enable and/or adopt capabilities or otherwise evolve the technical landscape.
  • Work with project teams to ensure there is an intentional design that is suitable and sustainable for the problem.
  • Reviews product architectures to advance the technical integrity and alignment of solutions.
  • Demonstrate deep technical expertise, thought leadership, and vision.
  • Serve on Program or Solution Leadership Teams, architectural review boards, technical steering committees, or similar groups to provide expert architectural, delivery, or product direction, as necessary.
  • Effectively communicate long-term technology strategies and trade-offs both to senior management and delivery teams
  • Advise senior Technology management on technology purchases and on future initiatives.
  • Contribute to business cases to ensure prospective initiatives are both architecturally and technically viable and fit-for-purpose.
  • Contribute to the establishment, evolution and continued compliance with standard practices, processes, and security controls.
  • Ensure all work products meets/exceeds FINRA standards and risks are effectively managed.
  • Grow a culture of ownership, transparency, accountability, and personal investment where teams are fully responsible for all aspects of a solution.
  • Develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with peers both within and outside of Technology and maintain them over time.
  • Establish and maintain external relationships with strategic product / service vendors, FINRA clients / customers, FINRA regulators, industry forums (government &private councils, standards bodies, product forums, etc.), as appropriate.
  • Respectfully challenge decisions when necessary, even when doing so is uncomfortable or exhausting.
  • Keep abreast of market developments in area of technical expertise, assess their readiness and applicability, evaluate impact/ opportunity on existing implementations and mid-term needs, and recommend migration and implementation plans, as appropriate.
  • Remain current in technologies and engineering disciplines that are applicable to the portfolio.

FINRAs Code of Conduct imposes restrictions on employees investments and requires financial disclosures that are uniquely related to our role as a securities regulator. FINRA employees are required to disclose to FINRA all brokerage accounts that they maintain, and those in which they control trading or have a financial interest (including any trust account of which they are a trustee or beneficiary and all accounts of a spouse, domestic partner or minor child who lives with the employee) and to authorize their broker-dealers to provide FINRA with duplicate statements for all of those accounts.
