Job Description

Job Summary:

The Associate Product Manager is responsible for supporting product development initiatives, infusing the product development process with keen insight about competitor products and industry trends in the US Insurance market.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with product managers and cross-functional teams on new product initiatives and messaging, with a focus on how to best package new products in a highly competitive Life distribution landscape (50%)
  • Advise product managers on competitive threats/opportunities to their product lines during and after product development
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Distribution teams to promote developed products and capitalize on opportunities within competitive landscape
  • Follow competitor actions and market trends closely; routinely deliver findings to senior management (30%)
  • Efficiently handle competition and product questions from internal and external distribution partners, including building infrastructure to improve competition self-service capabilities for internal stakeholders (10%)
  • Create and deliver presentations about John Hancocks products and competitive position (10%)
    Expresses ideas and shares information clearly and concisely, modifies approach as necessary and conveys compelling messages and builds (rational/emotional) connection to others.

  • Excellence in execution: sets challenging objectives and is focused on achieving results that are aligned with the organizations vision; pursues excellence in planning and delivering sustainable results.

  • Collaboration: Fosters productive working relationships to produce superior solutions, build beneficial networks and achieve collective business goals

  • Solution Focus: Owns problems through to resolution, makes timely decisions, applies analytic/systematic reasoning to positively impact team results, organizational performance and customer experience.

  • Product positioning and development of compelling marketing stories

Job Requirements:

  • 3-8 years experience in the insurance industry
  • Close familiarity with life insurance products (Universal Life, Term, Variable UL, Indexed UL, Living Benefits)
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively to various audiences
  • Knowledge of insurance brokerage marketplace
  • Knowledge of life insurance admin systems a plus
  • Excellent communication (particularly written) and interpersonal skills to deal with both technical and non-technical audiences and customers.
  • Ability to analyze extensive amounts of data and information and present the key findings in a way that gets the message across clearly to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Track record of thriving under tight deadlines.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including the ability to create pivot tables and write macros (VBA programming a plus).
  • Experience working with SharePoint, SQL, and Tableau a plus.
  • Strategic thinker.
  • Dynamic presenter.
