Job Description

Job Summary:

Product Management is responsible for the positioning, packaging and promotion of the John Hancock family of mutual funds. Activities include product management, product rationalization, product positioning, competitive benchmarking / analysis, product introduction and rollout of sales promotion materials for assigned funds and ensuring that all materials produced are compliant with current NASD and SEC regulations. Product Management is also responsible for disseminating fund information to the John Hancock Sales Team and will act as a liaison between portfolio management and the rest of the JHF organization. Product Management interacts regularly with Sales, National Accounts, Legal, Compliance, Investments, Operations and Senior Management in the development, positioning, packaging and promotion of funds.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the positioning, packaging and promotion a product line-up of John Hancock Funds. Activities include product rationalization, product positioning, competitive benchmarking / analysis, product introduction and rollout of sales promotion materials for assigned funds and ensuring that all materials produced are compliant with current NASD and SEC regulations.
  • Responsible for disseminating fund information to the John Hancock Sales Team
  • Interacts regularly with Sales, National Accounts, Legal, Compliance, Investments, Operations and Senior Management in the development, positioning, packaging and promotion of funds.
  • Responsible for remaining current with industry/competitor trends and providing guidance/influence for creation of new products, enhancements, and successful approaches for meeting or exceeding sales goals
  • Monitor the performance of products
  • Manage project plans to ensure timely completion of initiatives
  • Provide ongoing training and sales support

  • Participate in business unit, divisional, corporate and other projects as needed
  • Other production duties as assigned
  • Work with other areas of Product Management to implement medium to large-sized projects
  • Assist Marketing Communications with proofing and creating marketing materials, sales ideas, and Intranet/Internet content from a product perspective
  • Assists in product development of assigned funds. This includes: idea generation, primary analysis / scoping, building a business case and bringing a new product or service to market

Job Requirements:

  • BS in Finance, Marketing or related field, MBA preferred
  • Series 6 or 7
  • Series 63 required within 6 months
  • 7+ years in investment industry or 5+ years experience in product management
  • Deep Knowledge of key industry trends and best practices related to investment markets, product development and product launch
  • Excellent time and project management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to influence others beyond formal authority both inside and outside of the organization
  • Excellent oral, written and presentation skills
  • Project management, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Thorough knowledge of the financial services industry
  • Decisive and results oriented
  • Involved in changes in the fund lineup, to the sales charges and expense ratios, to operational procedures and marketing campaigns.
  • Owns implementation decisions relating to product line, with responsibility to report up to senior management and other stakeholders as needed
  • Owns recommendation to senior management on actions to take pertaining to product line
