Production Test Technician IIIs perform setup and calibration of semiconductor capital equipment tools. Additionally, they evaluate and follow testing instructions to ensure that tools meet specifications based on drawings and schematics. They also prepare technical reports, summarize findings and recommend solutions to technical problems. A Production Test Technician III performs testing and troubleshooting of circuits, components, instruments, and mechanical assemblies and may be required to make recommendations for improvement.

Job Scope:

  • Provides training and technical assistance to fellow technicians as needed
  • Performs independent quality inspections/audits on tools, as required
  • Identifies deficient work instructions & submits Redline improvement requests to tech writers
  • Utilizes Configuration Editor software to configure UI and backup files during software reloads
  • Participates in semi-complex side projects and completes tasks in creative and effective ways
  • Understands continuous improvement concepts and actively works to improve company processes
  • May be required to occasionally travel in support of customers and/or other Lam manufacturing activities

    Safety Protocol:

  • Must be able to squat, kneel, walk, climb, stand, and reach outside of neutral positions for over 50% of the time as well as be able to lift 35 pounds. Additionally, must be able to distinguish colors for wire identification
  • Performs LOTO (Lock Out Tag Out) procedures by isolating energy sources with LOTO devices and following ZEST (Zero Energy State Test) protocols
  • Adheres to personal and product safety guidelines by utilizing appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and following safety and clean room procedures
  • Maintains an organized and clean workspace by following 5S procedures
  • Reports safety issues/hazards to supervisor and/or manager

Technician Tasks:
  • Inspects parts for acceptance and corrects or escalates as required; communicates issues with leads and supervisors
  • Measures resistance/continuity/voltage using digital multimeters
  • Creates detailed manufacturing tasks covering skipped steps, documenting abnormal conditions and establishing tool reminders. Verifies task completion by utilizing I-marking, SQIP marks, and through the use of Swagelok go/no go gauges
  • Performs leak checks (vacuum, water, pressure decay) by utilizing appropriate equipment (i.e. fixtures and leak testing equipment) and procedures (Cell Fusion and KM Matrix); verifies check completion by utilizing the proper indicators (I-mark, gauge, etc.)
  • Provides technical assistance to other test technicians by troubleshooting new and/or persistent issues, accessing computer systems, reviewing schematics, and utilizing fixtures and/or other equipment
  • Removes and installs components/hardware by referring to technical drawings and Cell Fusion procedures; identifies/positions/assembles required parts according to instructions and utilizing correct hand tools and fixtures; escalate non-conforming parts and procedures as needed
  • Understands tool statuses and finds tool information by utilizing various SAP commands and setting up specialized equipment by gathering required fixtures
  • Resolves audit/inspection findings by troubleshooting/performing rework. Identifies issues, accesses Cell Fusion traceability to determine deviation from workmanship standards

  • Reports/document/reviews tool status and uses the proper escalation path
  • Records hours worked on each tool by documenting time spent on certain tasks
  • Develops & maintains constructive/cooperative working relationships with others including peers and supervisors
  • Participates in improvement projects through collaboration with other test technicians, leads, supervisors, engineers and vendors
  • Provides information and responds in a timely manner to supervisors and co-workers by telephone/written form/e-mail/in person to ensure work flow and maintain the production schedule
  • Demonstrates effective English written and verbal communication skills

Specific Job Skills:
  • Utilizes computer-based data systems including Baton, SAP, SharePoint, KRONOS & Quickbase
  • Demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Office software including Excel, Word, Outlook & Skype
  • Operates and uses equipment and hand tools, including but not limited to: calipers, wrenches, hoists, digital multimeters, screwdrivers, torque wrenches, ladders/platforms, snipping tools/cutters, Krytox

Education and/or Experience:
  • Associates degree in electronics or related field required and/or equivalent military experience that includes electronics-related background (such as avionics technician)
  • Typically requires of 2+ years of semiconductor capital equipment industry

Job Conditions:
  • Must be capable of physical exertion over 12-hour shifts, in tight spaces, wearing clean-room attire and be able to work in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment
  • Must be able to safely perform tasks involving repetitive motions
