We are looking for a Program Manager-Research for the Center for Oral Healthcare Quality and Safety at UTHealth School of Dentistry. The mission of the Center for Oral Healthcare Quality and Safety is to improve oral health by developing a dental learning health system and informatics infrastructure capable of continuous self-study and improvement. The employee will be responsible for managing and supporting the research projects undertaken by the Center for Oral Healthcare Quality and Safety. The employee will develop, plan, and maintain multi-institutional research for the Center for Oral Healthcare Quality and Safety and policy analysis and oversee the general running of the research projects.


1. Manages the research agenda for the area.

2. Sets deadlines, assigns responsibilities, monitors the progress of projects, and provides supervision and guidance to the research personnel, and administrative staff.

3. Facilitates collaboration between the multi-institutional research teams by organizing virtual team meetings and periodic face to face meetings.

4. Assists with the annual budget, negotiates service contracts, reports on progress and authorizes expenditures.

5. Informs upper management of key activities.

6. Assists in grant proposals to both private foundations and governmental agencies. Will work closely with SOD office of Research and with the Office of Sponsored Projects on the submission of grants.

7. Manages on-going strategic plans for the area.

8. Communicates with program officers and other key funding agency personnel to share objectives and outcomes. Prepares progress reports and presentations for grant funding agencies.

9. Manages Humans Resources activities or gives direct input for direct reports in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning.

10. Stays abreast of new and updated protocols for the department.

11. Other duties as assigned.


MS Office and basic statistical software (STATA, SPSS, or Minitab)

Certification for Protection of Human Research Subjects' training is required or completed within 5 days of employment.

Project Management

Minimum Education:

Bachelor's degree in science or a health administration related field such as public health

Minimum Experience:

Five years of applicable experience.
May substitute required experience with equivalent years of education beyond the minimum education requirement.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
This position may include work involving potentially hazardous chemical, biological or radioactive agents.

This job class may contain positions that are security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code 51.215
