Job Description

This role is onsite at the Teledyne FLIR facility in Billerica MA. Following the initial training period, 2 days weekly of remote work may be offered dependent upon project needs.

Job Summary:

The Quality Engineer (QE) is responsible for overall quality of an assigned product workcell. This encompasses the full lifecycle of product including design (NPI), qualification, manufacturing, reliability, and sustaining requirements/improvements. Activities include daily floor support, test plan development/execution, failure analysis, supplier quality activities, data/metric analysis, reviewing sales/purchase orders, assisting with proposal/contract related activities, QMS support and customer reporting/interaction. The QE will be focused on ground products based in Billerica and reports directly to the Quality & Reliability Director. This position focuses on high volume Government product

Duties & Responsibilities :

  • Lead Product Qualification Testing (PQT), First Article Testing (FAT) and Conformance Inspection (CI) consisting of periodic testing and inspection
  • Develop Test procedures and test reports per customer contract data requirements list (CDRL)
  • Establish and communicate workcell quality metrics and goals
  • Develop, signoff, implement, and maintain technical quality plans for new and existing products
  • Attend and provide value/input to daily Production Tac meetings
  • Perform deviation investigations into quality issues involving design, production, and suppliers
  • Ensure proper approval and documentation practices are followed for deviations, change control, procedures, documentation, and specifications
  • Conduct measurement analysis studies and implement and monitor statistical process control (SPC)
  • Lead various QMS activities at the facility to include Internal Audits, Mgt Review Meetings, NPI, CAPAs, Data analysis, complaints, etc.
  • Lead investigation of customer complaints to identify and document root cause and appropriate corrective, and preventive actions
  • Support Supplier Quality team with supplier development initiatives
  • Own workcell quality data responsibilities for design, manufacturing, and product returns, using statistical analysis, to correct and prevent quality problems
  • Lead customer-related FAT activities, including in-person FAT witness and documentation.
  • Perform hands on testing with engineering and production teams to identify failure mechanisms
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other departments

Job Qualifications:

Education Required/ Preferred:

- Bachelor's Degree in a scientific or Engineering field



- Minimum two (2) years' experience in a Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Qualification and Reliability Engineering function

- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in: Design Quality, Manufacturing Quality, and Quality improvement

- Working knowledge of inspection and test techniques, quality assurance procedures, statistical analysis, design quality / risk mitigation


- Able to audit QMS procedures in accordance with ISO 9001

- Working knowledge of Military standards is a plus

- ASQ certification is a plus

- Six Sigma and Lean experience highly desired (trained or certified)

- Knowledge of electrical & optical components/assemblies is a plus


- Strong organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to proactively take initiative and complete tasks in a timely manner

- Strong teamwork and interpersonal communication skills

- Ability to plan and organize workload under minimum supervision

- Good problem-solving skills, analytical and statistical data analysis tools

- Proficient in Microsoft Office

- Good technical writing skills

- SAP Experience is a plus
