TRANSLATIONAL BIOMIMETIC BIOELECTRONICS LAB

An Electronics Engineering based Research Assistant I position is open in the Lab at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) as part of the newly formed Texas Institute for Restorative Technologies (TIRN). Our lab uses advanced manufacturing approaches and creative ideas to develop new approaches to brain-computer interface systems including high-density sensors, novel form factors, integrated electronics, and wireless interfaces. This position will be a critical team member in our effort to develop and test novel packing approaches in translational bioelectronics.

Applicants must have experience in electronics assembly including experience with soldering, solder reflow, die bonding, and post-assembly inspection and testing. Good experimental and organizational skills are a must, which includes proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint or equivalent programs. Previous experience in microfabrication or additive manufacturing tools is a bonus, and additional training will be provided. Critical to the success of this position is one's mechanical aptitude, which includes the ability to design in CAD using programs like Fusion 360, AutoCAD, Sketchup, or KLayout, etc. The candidate will also require independence and attention-to-detail to ensure lab staff and equipment work together efficiently.

The selected candidate will benefit from a close interaction with our microfabrication engineers, collaborators, and students at both UTHealth and Rice University. Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Electronics assembly including experience with soldering, solder reflow
  • Die bonding in cleanroom setting
  • Experimental measurements using voltage and current sensing equipment.
  • Data presentation and documentation using PC Word/PowerPoint programs.
  • Logistics and organizational planning.
  • Complies with all governmental and University policies, rules, regulations, and codes. Performs other duties as assigned.
  • CERTIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

    General knowledge of research fields.

    MINIMUM EDUCATION:

    Bachelor's degree or relevant experience in lieu of education.

    MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

    No years of experience.

    Physical Requirements:

    Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds constantly and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
    This position may include work involving potentially hazardous chemical, biological or radioactive agents.
