ARCADIS is seeking a Resident Engineer - Freight Rail Transportation, to join our team in Chicago. Our ideal candidate will experience as a Resident Engineer for freight rail - including bridge, track, switches/controls.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Ability to manage and provide administrative, management, technical, and support related services as required to coordinate work between all applicable parties
  • Manage and review project documents such as RFI's and Submittals
  • Review and know client construction specifications and contract management
  • Lead management staff in negotiations with contractor and assist in preparing change documentation.
  • Work with project management staff in the preparation of the project budget
  • Work with project management staff with the management of project scope, budget, and schedule
  • Manage and provide analysis, and report on the project key performance metrics
  • Follow appropriate internal control safeguards to ensure consistent reporting of accurate information

Key Attributes:
  • Must be a team player who will be the primary point of contact for the client and the contractor
  • Must understand construction means and methods

  • Experience in project management related to construction
  • Ability to produce quality materials within tight time-frames and simultaneously manage several assignments
  • Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings
  • Excellent professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience related to construction management
  • BS/BA Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
  • Must have working knowledge of FRA On Track Safety
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)


  • PE, PMP, CCM certification(s)
