Reporting to the Plant Manager and the Crop Inputs Sales Leader, the Crop Inputs Retail Manager is expected to provide local crop inputs teams with leadership in customer service, sales, agronomic knowledge, safety, operations, logistics and inventory management. The Crop Inputs Retail Manager will lead the crop input facility by engaging customers, executing on all critical process and systems to build a world class culture around operational excellence and customer service, lead and develop operational employees and closely collaborate with sales and agronomy teams. The incumbent plans and executes physical operations on a daily basis as well as customer service and sales.

Physical Effort: The staff at the location performs as a team in getting work done during the busy season. The Retail Manager may be required to load trucks, rail cars, containers/bags of chemicals and fertilizer weighing 40-60 lbs. Climbing ladders and stairs to various levels of the elevator or fertilizer tower requires physical effort particularly during busy periods.

Physical Environment: The physical environment that may cause some discomfort is the grain dust in the office and driveway due to receiving or shipping grain. There is some risk of accident if there is a chemical spill when handling chemical products. The Retail Manager may be required to climb to an exterior loading platform or on top of hopper cars in all types of weather, in order to load grain into cars. Must be able and willing to work from heights (i.e. ladders, catwalks, etc.) and in an outdoor/indoor environment.

Sensory Attention: In peak periods, the facility is very busy; the phone is ringing, customers are anxious to purchase products or sell their grain. There is a sense of urgency for the grower and the location staff.

Mental Stress: The nature of the business requires the Retail Manager and location staff to put in very long hours in an intense period of time during the spring and the fall. The long hours along with the urgency of completing the tasks at hand is stressful.

Principal Accountabilities

50% Customer Service and Crop Input Sales
Sell seed, fertilizer and crop protection products to new and existing customers; this is includes identifying agronomic needs and helping customers make good crop input decisions, prospecting customers, building customer relationships and closing sales.
Provide basic crop input recommendations to farm customers.
Collaborate with the Sales and Agronomy team to ensure customer plans are executed, top line sales and gross margin goals are being achieved. Crop Inputs Retail Managers will be assigned specific tasks in engaging customers in sales activities.
Be the primary contact for identified customers and manage the customer account and record customer information in SFDC.
Ensure outstanding customer service; includes proactively engaging customers in their crop input needs
Work with the sales and administration team to manage credit and collection programs
Oversee and manage accounts payables and receivables

40% Safely and efficiently lead the operations of a crop input facility
Perform operations duties to serve customers, such as, blending and loading fertilizer, unloading and loading seed and agricultural chemical products.
Lead and manage the Integrated Business Planning (IBP) process, forecasting and inventory management.
Ensure proper handling and storage of crop inputs products
Supervise, lead and engage his/her own team in the facility on a daily basis.
Conduct regular plant inspections, hold monthly safety meetings with staff to review procedures and safety awareness issues.
Be responsible to execute plans and schedules of operations staff ensuring staffing levels are appropriate at all times and that seasonal staff has proper training and direction.
Direct and perform the daily operations of the facility safely, efficiently and profitably.
Ensure proactive maintenance of facilities to ensure safe working environment.
Retail auditing and inventory management.
Liaison with internal and external contacts.

10% Net Earnings of the Crop Input Facility
Strong collaboration with the Sales and Agronomy team to ensure top line sales and gross margin goals are being achieved.
Leads the location in terms of forecasting, Net Earnings, ROGI
Active participation in crop input planning and forecasting.
Input into the location budget; ensuring cost-effective management (P+L)
Make recommendations and input into capital budget analysis and requests
Contribute to the development and implement the locations business plan

Required Qualifications
High school Diploma
1+ years of experience in a related field
Previous experience in an agricultural service business environment and related post-secondary education or training.
Knowledge of the crop input business/agronomy including to be able to provide basic crop input recommendations to farm customers.
Ability to work over time, holidays and weekends.
Ability to work in a cold environment, both indoors and outdoors, with exposure to dust
Ability to handle chemical products, lifting up to 60lbs, climbing ladders and working from heights
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada

Preferred Qualifications
Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
Experience leading and operating a crop inputs facility
Certified Crop Advisor, P. Ag., or related designation

Ability to identify opportunities and prospects, build customer relationships and close sales.
Ability to effectively lead a team of diverse employees with demonstrated leadership
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Proven problem solving, decision-making and organizational skills
Ability to manage compliance with Environment, Health & Safety and Operations standards and regulations
Excellent customer service
Ability to network and build relationships
Ability to facilitate training
Demonstrated ability in safety thoughts and actions.
Knowledge of inventory control, operating efficiency and budget management
