The Scientist III will work as part of a team, under the direction of the group leader/manager, to conduct laboratory experiments to support the development of clinical and preclinical research programs. The Scientist III will conduct small molecule preformulation experiments such as solubility studies, formulation screening, salt and polymorph studies, and stability studies. The successful candidate will be highly motivated, have strong communication skills, have a strong foundation in either formulation, analytical or solid-state chemistry.


  • Conducts preformulation studies to evaluate the physicochemical, biopharmaceutical, and solid-state properties of new compounds such as salt and polymorph screens, solubility studies, and stability studies.
  • Develop preclinical formulations and write formulation protocols to support efficacy and tox studies.
  • Interprets data, draws conclusions, presents findings and author technical reports and presentations.
  • Maintaining thorough and timely documentation of experiments in electronic laboratory notebooks.
  • Manage laboratory inventory and equipment.
  • Collaborate with other CMC functions to support the development of solid oral formulations
  • The candidate must be highly self-motivated, have excellent organization and communication skills, and be willing to work both independently and as a team member.


  • No supervisory responsibilities



Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biochemistry, pharmaceutical sciences or related field and a minimum of five (5) years of related laboratory experience; or,

Master's degree in chemistry, biochemistry, pharmaceutical sciences or related field and a minimum of three (3) year of related laboratory experience; or

Equivalent combination of education and experience.


Experience in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries with a good understanding of the drug development process is required.

  • Experience using HPLC, DSC, TGA, XRPD, DVS and other basic laboratory equipment are a plus.
  • Hands-on experience and/or working knowledge of analytical techniques-HPLCs, calorimetry, Karl Fischer, spectrophotometry, light scattering, Microscopy, pH,-used for screening/characterization is preferred.


  • Works effectively independently and capable of multi-tasking and prioritizing assignments in a fast-paced organization while meeting timelines is essential.
  • Creative and critical thinking, problem solving, and organization skills
  • General knowledge of laboratory practices and safety.
  • Working knowledge of the drug development process in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • General knowledge of basic office and laboratory software; Windows software, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, ChemDraw, and Jump.


Environment: primarily working in laboratories

Exposures encountered, such as hazardous materials including but not limited to new chemical entities and solvents.

Travel not required.
