We are hiring a Segment Director Ruminants. The Segment Director is a leader with deep species/industry knowledge and understanding of how to create new value for our relevant customers and capture a fair share of the new value created for Cargill. The Species Segment Director leads CAN growth across the portfolio for the given species. This role provides our customers and business a competitive advantage in priority growth markets in this species. In addition, the Species Segment Director provides SMT leadership for one of three geographies (Americas, EMEA, Asia). In this role the Species Segment Director works closely with the SMT teams in the geography to identify and elevate appropriately growth opportunities and challenges and facilitate talent development. This position will work in a fast-pace environment, simplify the complexity with stakeholders (senior leaders, business leaders), provide industry expertise, and ensures growth in the given species aligned to CAN Group expectations.

The preferred location for this position is the Minneapolis, MN are, however remote location will be considered for strong candidates.

Principal Accountabilities

35% Species Growth Strategy: Develops the species (Poultry or Swine or Ruminants) strategy for the Group by working within SMT and business leaders, other Functions and senior leadership.

  • Facilitate systematic and structured capture of appropriate market, competitor and customer insights/needs in a way that drives strategic choices and an innovation portfolio for the given species;
  • Leverages market insight, data and the strategic planning process to determine which segments and which geographies offer the biggest opportunity to focus global, group and local resources for the given species;
  • Collaborates with priority market business leaders (RMD, MD and In Mkt SMT Leads) to define key growth opportunities along with capabilities and offerings to capture them.
  • Works with internal and external stakeholders and senior leadership to develop the necessary innovation, offerings, capabilities and marketing tactics in order formulate a comprehensive growth strategy for the species both at the priority markets and global level.
  • Leads deep understanding of competitor capabilities, offerings, strategies and tactics in order to outperform them.
  • Partners with FP&A to define financial indicators and other leading and lagging measures of success.

40% Species Strategy Deployment and Execution: in collaboration with in market business leaders, is accountable for reaching business and financial goals through a successful deployment of the species portfolio, offerings & capabilities, leading-edge practices, and by build high-performance teams.

  • Ensures that clear roles and responsibilities, priorities and resource allocation are defined in the business (SMT, commercial, RMS, BOSC, etc) to enable the successful execution of the strategy including new customer value creation and capture.
  • Introduces new offerings and defines minimum expectations for competitive capabilities to outpace market growth with tactical deliverables (7 Ps, go-to-market) in priority growth markets
  • Leads the technology application, commercial training, & customer support with large accounts in the given species and also work closely with the other species counterparts in the geography the Species Segment Director is focusing
  • Accountable to apply marketing plans along with communities of practice (research, core nutrition, pricing, etc.) to deliver on defined budgets
  • Working with category, technology and R&D team members to define people, assets and activities necessary at the group and local level to successfully execute SMT strategic priorities for the given species
  • Maintains extensive product expertise, including features/functionality, value propositions, competitive positions and market dynamics in the team
  • Responsible to achieve the species profitability and growth results (volume, financial) that outpace the market growth and aligned to CAN Group growth targets.
  • Provides strategic leadership with partnerships, thought leaders, and industry experts
  • Provide leadership in the one geography (Americas or EMEA or Asia) to identify and elevate appropriately growth opportunities and challenges and facilitate talent development

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Deep industry knowledge and understanding of ruminants including how to create new value for customer and capture value for Cargill
  • 10 years of animal nutrition industry experience
  • Proven business or functional leadership experience with focused experience on business development and growth
  • Experience leading strategy portfolio of projects in a complex business and marketing environment
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; dynamic (persuasive) in presenting ideas to clients and prospective clients from VP to C-level; comfortable being able to quickly join the leadership team and immediately add value
  • Must possess rigorous analytical disciplined approach as well as dynamic, abstract problem solving skills (get to the answer via both 'inspiration' and 'perspiration')
  • Demonstrated success driving organizational change within client organizations past experience in organizational design consulting, process design and optimization, digital governance, and team dynamics a strong plus
  • Strong interpersonal skills (builds trust) as team leader and team player with experience managing and training others a plus
  • Travel globally up to 50% where animal nutrition conducts business
  • Fluent in English

  • MBA or similar educational degree
  • Work experience in a multi-national organization
  • Leadership experience working in a matrix environment
  • International assignment experience preferred
