We are seeking a Senior Accountant, looking to take their career to the next level in corporate accounting at our Corp HQ in Atlanta, GA. This visible role will be working with capital spending and fixed assets across all ofGeorgia-Pacific LLC. The role will be responsible for accurate accounting, financial controls, reporting, and working with innovative projects to automate reporting and accounting processes. In this role, the Senior Accountant will be building relationships by giving guidance and direction in accounting to internal customers across all GP businesses and tax.

The ideal candidate will have a proven background using critical thinking for problem solving, show initiative, work with a sense of urgency, and be successful at multi-tasking on projects and tasks.Key qualities for success will include a passion for process improvement, a talent for working with financial systems and reporting tools, and an inherent high level of integrity.

A Day In The Life - Knowledge & Skills for success!

This position creates value for the company by 1) partnering with business controllers and accountants to guide them in effective financial controls 2)transforming, automating and streamlining fixed asset processes and procedures for financial and tax requirements.

  • Active participation in accounting and reporting of company-wide fixed asset balance sheet and P&L information

  • Provide accurate and timely services to various corporate customers including FAS accountants, business planning, tax, legal, and external auditors. This includes reporting, policy, and accounting guidance to resolve issues and create opportunities

  • Develop and present training materials for end users and management within the company

  • Participate in process improvement projects and automation with the FAS system and reporting

  • Integrate fixed asset data from acquired companies to Georgia Pacifics system

  • Perform monthly closing activities for the FAS system including reconciliations and other financial controls

  • Some of our work has not been operationalized yet. Must be comfortable breaking new ground in undefined territory.

  • Project management skills, investigative and inquisitive outlook are key. Must be able to take material that is tough to understand, clarify requirements, research options and formulate a game plan.

  • Able to merge two or more imperfect data sources to arrive at a good picture of company-wide activity.

  • Able to handle complexity. Our companys legal entity structure is not simple.

  • Someone who has an eye towards controls that will help us detect errors in advance of submission will have an edge.

What You Will Need:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting, Finance or Business; earned with a GPA of 3.0 or above

  • At least THREE years of experience in an Accounting, Analysis, Audit, or Systems role

  • At least ONE year of Accounting experience and understanding of general accounting functions (i.e. general ledger, month-end close, intercompany transactions, account reconciliations, account analysis)

  • At least ONE year of experience working within an integrated accounting system and/or reconciling transactions between multiple systems

  • At least ONE year of experience working within data mining software such as: SQL, Access, PowerBI, Tableau, Alteryx, or similar

  • Strong understanding of the design and purpose of internal financial controls(i.e. understanding the purpose of internal controls, identifying gaps, ensuring controls are being maintained)
