Senior Database Administrator

Implements and optimizes the computerized database systems that support the Company's or client's ability to function on a daily basis. Implements and maintains smooth operation and physical design of databases. Conducts performance tuning of indexes and databases in general. Reviews database design and integration of systems, provides backup recovery and makes recommendations regarding enhancements and/or improvements. Maintains security and integrity controls. Formulates policies, procedures, and standards relating to database management, and monitors transaction activity and utilization. May develop stored procedures and/or triggers. Administers a variety of database systems ,such as Microsoft SQL Server, and other Database Management Systems (DBMS). Develops and enforces database administration and user standards and procedures; audits, modifies, and amends data in systems using SQL commands. Oversees the scheduling of database projects, database and transaction log backups, notifications, and database replication between multiple SQL Servers and remote sites. Assists Database Designers/Information System Analysts in the development and creation of SQL and Web-based databases and database systems. Reviews technical designs, reports, documentation, and other materials produced by staff; creates and maintains high-level reporting systems using products such as Crystal Reports; researches and implements new database and online technology.


Requires 8 to 10 years with BS/BA or 6 to 8 years with MS/MA or 3 to 5 years with PhD.

Education and Experience Requirements:Requires 5-8 years with BS/BA* or 3-5 years with MS/MA/MBA* or 10-12 years with no degree (*computer science or related field)

  • SQL Server Administration 5+ years
  • Active CompTIA Security+ Certification and equivalent acceptable Computing Environment Certification(s)
  • U.S. citizenship is required
  • Working onsite required (no telecommuting)
  • Ability to obtain an Interim SECRET security clearance is required (active clearance preferred)

Database Administrator Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the creation of ad-hoc (often complex) database queries
  • Design and develop schemas, tables, views, stored procedures, functions, packages, and jobs
  • Test database objects and processes to ensure they are working correctly
  • Document database design and processes
  • Coordinate, plan, and manage complex database solutions
  • Perform database extract, transform, and load (ETL) operations utilizing a variety of file formats CSV, XML, JSON, etc.
  • Translate business logic into database objects to facilitate calculations and reporting
  • Monitor database utilization and adjust/tune configuration to maintain optimal performance
  • Support Web Application Production and Development databases
  • Actively interface with customer(s) in support of technical status meetings, requirements, etc.
  • Develop and maintain industry best practices
  • Maintain required documentation
  • Available for occasional travel up to 10%


  • Experience with the following languages required: T-SQL (Transact-SQL), PL/SQL or ANSI SQL, .NET Framework
  • Experience with the following languages preferred: Python, Spark, JavaScript, ECMAScript, Java
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the customer in order to transform customer needs, expectations, and constraints into database requirements
  • Knowledge and experience with Army Maintenance & Logistics preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced development environment
  • Ability to work collaboratively within an Agile team environment
  • Ability to adapt to changing technologies and requirements
  • Experience with, Big Data Tools, GIT, NoSQL, Oracle, Data Extraction (SQL Server, Hadoop, etc.) preferred
  • Experience with version/source control of databases/database objects
