Georgia-Pacific is seeking an experienced Senior Engineer to join the Containerboard & Cellulose Technical Services team in Atlanta, GA. The Senior Engineer will be responsible for providing engineering expertise for the design, construction, operation, maintenance, and trouble-shooting of turbine/generators and electrical distribution systems for the division. An ideal candidate will have a combination of turbine/generator and power distribution system expertise that will enable them to effectively provide the divisions pulp & paper mills with capital project and manufacturing services support.

A Day In The Life Typically Includes:

  • Analysis of existing systems and development of strategies for improving safety, reliability andefficiency

  • Identification of need and opportunity for turbine/generator and electrical distribution capital projects including evaluation of technical and economic feasibility

  • Coordination, review and approval of work done by engineering consultants

  • Project field engineering, including construction, startup, and commissioning support

  • Training of operators, supervision, and process engineering personnel

  • Safety and reliability audits of turbine/generator and electrical distribution systems

  • Development and updating of design, operation and maintenance standards

  • Collaboration with purchasing and mills on development of sourcing strategies for equipment and services

  • Managing and enforcing environmental, health and safety compliance in all activities with the objective of achieving zero incidents

What You Will Need:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree or higher in engineering

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience with turbine/generators and/or electrical distribution systems in one or more of the following areas: engineering design, construction, operation, maintenance, manufacturers technical service representative

  • Experience with Microsoft Office products including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, & Outlook

  • Application of theoretical and practical aspects of the design, construction, operation and maintenance of turbine/generators and electrical distribution systems

  • Knowledge of modeling electrical distribution systems (understanding outputs and proposing solutions)

  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of personnel from mill operating and maintenance personnel to top corporate management

  • Ability to travel at least 50%


Strong business acumen, analytical/problem solving skills, sense of urgency, team building skills, and technical leadership

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree or higher in electrical engineering

  • Experience within Pulp & Paper Industry

  • Experience with turbine/generators

  • Experience with electrical distribution systems

  • Experience with modeling electrical distribution systems (safety, capacity)
