This position has Industrialization Lead responsibility for all Trailer Business Unit projects and programs, leading the organizations Manufacturing Engineering Teams and Operations Teams in the planning and execution of 1) New Model Programs 2) Key Manufacturing Process Improvements and 3) Manufacturing Operations Strategies to improve product profitability and to establish Meritor as a trailer market leader. This position requires strong Manufacturing and Project Management skills to lead the local Manufacturing Engineering teams at the plant locations to execute strategies and programs across multiple plants. These manufacturing processes include Forming, Stamping, Machining, Welding, Assembly and Test. The plants in the Trailer Products Business Unit include Frankfort, Kentucky; Morganton, North Carolina; and a joint venture plant in Guadalajara, Mexico. This position requires 40% travel, primarily domestic.

Lead/manage complex projects at multiple Meritor mfg. locations while working closely with the Product Eng., Sales and Product Line Mgmt. teams to ensure products meet customer expectations and timing.
Responsible for developing Mfg. Processes, Capital Plans, Project Timing and Execution Plans in support of mfg. initiatives and new product launches to insure program timing, cost, and capital expenditure targets are achieved.
Execute Industrialization Program Mgmt. activities including: coordinating and assigning project activities to the appropriate mfg. engineer at Meritor plant locations, conducting project meeting cadence and driving Open Action registers to ensure project objectives are met, and communicate with Trailer Program Mgrs. to ensure overall program timing and objectives are met.
Responsible for developing, planning and executing key manufacturing process improvements at the manufacturing locations to gain Productivity, Variable Cost and Fixed Cost improvements in the Trailer Operations group.
Lead the local Plant Mfg.Teams in identifying key manufacturing process changes to make significant improvements in Plant Productivity and Fixed Cost improvements and leading the Mfg. Eng.Teams in execution of these plans.
Lead and write Appropriation Requests to gain corporate approval in support of Plant Productivity and Efficiency Improvements.
Responsible for developing mfg. strategies and implementation plans in support of the Trailer Business Unit goals for market growth and customer quality, delivery and cost objectives.
Develop a Mfg. Operating Vision with the Trailer Business Unit Leadership to leverage current mfg. capabilities and create a Technology Roadmap for future product applications and mfg. efficiencies.
Lead Value Stream Mapping and Process Improvement Events with the Mfg., Operations and Product Engineering teams to identify and implement Lean Mfg. Systems and Process Improvements.
Develop 5-Year Capital Plans that meet the Trailer Business Unit objectives for market growth and cost / quality improvements and keep Capital Database updated for all plant-level projects and forecasts.
Responsible for mfg. footprint optimization considering mfg. competencies in support of strategic growth.
Improve the Mfg. Workflow Process as it relates to generation of new Product Specifications and plant floor implementation as well as improving the current mfg. product change process.
Lead Equipment Supplier Selection and Development process for machinery, equipment, tooling and gaging optimization across all mfg. locations while working with Meritor Indirect Purchasing Team to leverage capital spending.
Develop a Statement of Work process for equipment selection as well as establish & monitor equipment run-off requirements.
Establish process for developing and calculating labor/manpower for all programs including Standard Direct Labor Minutes.
Lead Mfg. Benchmarking and Best-Practices for the Trailer Organization across other Meritor manufacturing plants in the Truck, Off-Highway, Specialty and Defense Business Units.
Benchmark and document the Trailer Customer OEM Assembly Processes for understanding, planning and execution of product changes at the customer locations and to facilitate flawless execution of trailer product changes and new product introductions.
Lead Design-for-Mfg. discussions early in the product life-cycle with Product Eng. for New Model and for DMO material and mfg. cost-reduction activities.
Establish Project Mgmt. standards, development and adherence to standards for the mfg. organization.
Apply standardized mfg. processes across the organization, develop new mfg. techniques and implement mfg. processes that meet the Meritor Production System metrics and objectives.


Minimum Bachelors Degree (preferably mechanical, industrial or manufacturing engineering or engineering technology).
7-10+ years experience in multiple functions such as manufacturing engineering, operations, and program management.
PMP Certification or professional engineering registration is desirable.
Lean Manufacturing and APQP experience required. Six-Sigma Green or Black Belt certification a plus.
Demonstrated management, leadership and communication skills are required.
Strong computer software skills including Excel, PowerPoint, and Access (AutoCAD is a plus).
Knowledge of Oracle, procurement, cost accounting or logistics (a plus).
Ability to travel up to 40% as needed.
