Short description:

The scope of this effort is to provide Disaster Recovery Backup and Recovery and SANS support services develop and maintain the Consular Affairs 2N and DR Data Centers located in the Washington, DC area. The Senior Back up Engineer will assist to provide continuous improvement and automating failover where possible to achieve faster recovery and more reliable and highly available CA services. The candidate is required to enable seamless switching between the primary and secondary 2N locations to support DR activities and maintenance. The candidate will assist to enhance and maintain the DR Plan and validate the recovery capabilities through periodic tests. The DR Engineer provides support at the facilities working closely with the Government, as requested. The DR Engineer will support the ISSO and ensure that security and internal controls are handled in accordance with DOS policies and procedures. The Engineer will ensure that all problems and incidents are logged into the Ticket Management System and managed in accordance with the DOS policies and procedures. This activity requires coordination with the facility managers for the DOS data centers.

The candidate will contribute to the following activities:

  • Assist with operations of the two CA Data Centers infrastructure.
  • Minimize impact to CA operations during planned Data Center maintenance.
  • Support storage solutions globally including but not limited to, enterprise block, object and network attached storage, and managing multiple Storage Area Networks (SANs) housing multiple petabytes of data.
  • Provides technical oversight of hardware and software systems, with a focus on Storage Area Network administration.
  • Provide professional service within the parameters specified in the site's service level agreement and/or that meet or exceed the customer requirements.
  • Monitor system utilization including data storage management, performance metrics and service levels.
  • Ensure reliable backup and recovery of necessary data.
  • Develop and maintain an automated environment including reporting, event notifications and actions, software updates and service packs.
  • Report on capacity and do proactive planning for additional storage.
  • Allocates storage to servers, configuring fiber channel switches, and capacity planning for the SAN, in addition to OS level support related to implementing and maintaining system security and data recovery processes, providing technical support, utilizing automation tools for delivering applications, managing assets, monitoring performance, event notifications and automating desktop support.
  • Coordinate and communicate activities, status updates, outage notifications
  • Document, track and report on the support provided to the Consular facilities (inclusive of all levels of support and all Consular facilities); report and follow-up on all trouble calls.

Education: AA/BS Computer Science, Information Technology and Infrastructure preferred;
Experience: 10 -12 years supporting Disaster Recovery/Back and Restore/SAN management
Certifications: Preferred CompTIA A+ Certified, CompTIA Network+ Certified;CompTIA Security+ Certified
