Summary



Will lead, schedule, monitor, and assist
supervisor with the daily operations of MakerSpace labs. Assist with laboratory processes, activities
and use of labs; including service, maintenance, and support of technologies.
May deliver short training and/or orientations on the use of equipment for
users of the space. In addition to machine programming and operation, a primary
focus of the position will be insuring safety within the labs and the
development and administration of teaching and training resources.




ESSENTIAL
FUNCTIONS



1. Develop
and implement Policy and Procedures Manual as guidelines for lab practices,
keep current with new technologies and safety regulations and research/develop
ADA procedures.




2. Assist
in training, coordinating and leading the work of MakerSpace lab technicians;
including but not limited to work schedules, lab assignments and maintenance of
lab equipment.




3. Assist
in conducting risk management assessments to proactively evaluate the physical
environment of the labs on a regular basis.




4. Collect
analyze and report data regarding lab use, effectiveness of labs, skills labs
and activities.




5. Assist
with the day-to-day operations of the labs and technologies; to include assisting
students, faculty, staff and the community with various projects.




6. Collaborate
with supervisor to implement new technology integrations, lead the evaluation
of technology pilots and troubleshoot where necessary to ensure successful
completion.




7. Develop
lab schedules to maximize use, ensure safe operation of the labs, and train
users in the safe use of technologies as they are implemented.




8. Collaborate
with technical staff where appropriate in other MakerSpace labs as they are set
up around the district.




9. Support
and troubleshoot all computerized and non-computerized equipment within the
labs.




10. Research,
evaluate and recommend purchases of appropriate equipment and software.




11. Assist
HCC IT technicians as determined by departmental leadership.




12. May
be required travel to multiple campus locations, and work evening and weekend
hours as needed.




* With or without accommodation, the
employee in this position needs to move about and position him/herself to
access files and operate a variety of prototyping machines including laser
cutting systems, 3D printers, CNC routers, plasma cutters, vinyl cutters,
plastics forming systems and other power equipment. This position requires work
in a unique product development and prototyping laboratory and routinely
exposes one to manufacturing and other technical environments. This may require
lifting and positioning raw materials and/or products, loading materials into
machines, fabricating working models of product ideas, and may occasionally
involve work out of door.



Performs other duties, tasks and
assignments as required.




QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
  • Bachelors degree required
  • 3 years experience setting up, operating and maintaining tools and equipment in a studio, MakerSpace or shop environment required.
  • Experience implementing and supporting policies and procedures on the safe use of tools and equipment in a studio, MakerSpace or shop environment preferred
Licensing & Certification

Conditions



General office. May frequently be required to walk; stand;
sit; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and
distance vision. Use of personal
computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer, photocopier, file
cabinets, and calculator. Manual
dexterity, ability to lift up to 25 pounds, ability to reach and bend, and use
2-step stool while safely lifting and lowering boxes. Ability to travel to and from meetings,
training sessions or other business-related events. May be required to work after hours to
include weekends and holidays.
