Role description:

This is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated engineer to join our team locally with support from one of the best-qualified consulting firms in the country. The Project Manager will utilize their expertise and technical knowledge of water treatment and distribution, to manage infrastructure design and construction projects teams. Although specific technical expertise is valuable, the ability for the successful candidate to manage both schedule and quality of multi-disciplinary inter-organizational teams is even more critical for this role. Fundamental to the role is the ability to an effective communicator and work collaboratively with clients, consultants and contractors.

Role accountabilities:
  • Manage projects and clients' expectations from planning to design review and construction of water/wastewater and distribution/collection infrastructure, as well as reviewing construction documents/specifications and supporting engineering services during construction.
  • Meets established quality, budgets and delivery schedules for each assignment.
  • Lead the planning, management, execution, and delivery of engineering projects.
  • Serve as Project Manager for projects of different levels of complexity and size.
  • Supervise and support the work of others.
  • Mentor and coach junior staff to enhance the project team's overall capabilities.
  • Develop scopes of work and budgets.
  • Develop relationships and/or provide guidance on teaming partners for pursuits.
  • Travel (up to 20%) is required. Travel will be conducted for project site visits, client meetings, safety audits, general planning purposes or to oversee construction activities, depending on project staffing needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications
  • 10 or more years of experience working with clients to manage and successfully deliver capital projects in the water/wastewater utility sector.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related from an ABET accredited school.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Alabama or ability to obtain AL licensure within six months of hire.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, as well as MS Project and/or Primavera scheduling software.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 12 or more years' experience with water system planning, design, management, permitting and construction engineering activities with a similar Engineering Consulting firm.
  • Experience preparing, reviewing, and approving project drawings, specifications, schedules, and cost estimates.
  • Active participation in regional and/or national professional associations.
