Come join a team at Garmin's Headquarters in Kansas City - our team brings Garmins devices to life. We are looking for a full time Sensors Software Engineer who wants to work with sensors and develop algorithms. Youll use low level busses like I2C, UART, and SPI to receive information from the hardware. With that information, youll work with the product teams to develop unique algorithms to include in Garmin products.





The Senior Software Engineer will also be responsible for the following:



  • New Sensor Implementation

  • Design, implement, test, debug, release and maintain algorithms in products (written in C, C++ and/or Python)

  • Evaluate embedded processor design trade-offs including power consumption, cost, reliability and time to market

  • Coordinate closely with electrical engineers and vendors to integrate externally developed deliverables into projects as well as provide technical feedback in discussions on roadmaps and component selection for future platforms

  • Perform advanced technical research on new technologies with electrical engineering team, and develop prototypes to demo the new technology with the team

  • Participate in project leadership and/or program planning including providing technical input to product development plans and concept documents

  • Collaborate and add value through participation in peer code reviews and technical assessments in areas of expertise, providing comments and suggestions to support software designs and new technologies

  • Assist electrical engineering team as needed with component datasheet review and schematic design review

  • Offer process improvement suggestions and authors new procedures as appropriate

  • Perform periodic low-level software maintenance on product platforms in production as required

  • Mentor less experienced Software Engineers and may perform as a lead engineer on some projects



Candidates for this role should possess a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Geomatics Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Math or Physics or another relevant engineering/technical field AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR Master of Science Degree in any of the fields noted above AND a minimum of 3 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience plus a cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule. Qualified candidates will also demonstrate proficiency with:



  • Writing code in C and C++

  • Experience in algorithm development

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
Experience with Matlab, Python and DSP (digital signal processing) is highly preferred!
