We are seeking a Software Development Manager who is looking for a great opportunity to grow, develop and expand their skills professionally. If this describes you, Emerson has an exciting must-see opportunity for you based in our MARSHALLTOWN, IA location (Marshalltown More than Ever). In this role you could also take part in our Flexible Work Schedule Remote Work Option. As a Software Development Manager, you will lead a team responsible for new product development of Fisher branded embedded industrial automation products & bring new technology into the industrial space.   • Manage and Grow Resources
    • Manage 2 development teams: embedded software development and software development for test
    • Drive ongoing employee growth through career planning, training, mentorship, and tasks that stretch capabilities
    • Ensure development team stays up to date with the latest technologies
  • Manage Software Development Activities
    • Coordinate the planning of software development tasks for 10-12 software resources
    • Work with the development team and product manager to break features down into iterations and sprints
    • Facilitate backlog item scoring and track velocity and burndown
    • Collaborate with Hardware and User Interface leaders to align iteration plans
    • Perform retrospective sessions and prioritize and execute on process improvements
    • Be the teams expert in coding standards and new product development process and assure compliance and ongoing improvements to the standards
  • Ownership of Software Design and Tools
    • Collaborate with senior and technologist level software developers to align on critical technical decisions
    • Owns selection and management of tools used for software development
    • Escalate issues and risks that impact project metrics
    • Report project status and plans to management on a regular cadence


This role has the flexibility to be 100% remote, 100% on-site or mix of on-site and remote work. Our teams work together to ensure our chosen work schedules enable our creativity and productivity as we serve the needs of our customers.

You are a problem solver who seeks new approaches.

  • B.S. degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or Electrical Engineering(or 5+ years of related experience plus certifications)
  • 5+ years of professional work experience in software development and/or management of a software team
  • 10+ years of experience, including both software development and management
  • Experience with Distributed Version Control (Mercurial, Git, or similar)
  • Familiarity with Continuous Integration (TeamCity, Jenkins, or similar)
