Job Summary

The Product Engineering Group functions as the Design Authority for Moog Products released for production. Primary areas of responsibility include supporting of production assembly and test areas by resolving issues, maintaining product integrity, and influencing product cost.

The Product EngineeringSpecialist/Lead provides support for Aircraft production programs in East Aurora. He or She shall provide leadership and mentoring to other engineers and technicians within the department. Responsibilities may include fulfilling responsible engineer functions for a multiple of product models and providing technical expertise for a number of teams as needed. For example, servo-valve operation, project management, failure analysis, or assembly and test equipment support.

Roles/Responsibilities

The Product Engineering Specialist/Lead supports all phases of the product life cycle including development, new product introduction (NPI), product transfer and product delivery by:

  • Initiating clear production assembly/test instructions to operations personnel to maintain efficient production. These instructions includes formal Work Instructions, Acceptance Test Procedures (ATP / PAT), engineering memos, and Electronic Historical Record (EHR) entries
  • Defining and scheduling the development of equipment to meet production requirements for operations department. These include assembly fixtures and tools, production flow-line systems, and test equipment.
  • Assuring and maintaining product integrity, and quality in production hardware. The Product engineer does this by collaborating with other Moog resources to resolve production problems, assisting in Material Review Board (MRB) analyses, and assisting in evaluation for possible notice of escape (NOE) to customers.
  • Providing product engineering support as required to other Moog departments to maintain and improve product quality, first pass yield (FPY), production schedule, and product cost (PCAS) objectives
  • Having a thorough understanding of all design principles associated with all products and train other team members in these principles.
  • Supporting the facilitation of design changes by redlining drawings, participating in Change Review Board (CRB) meetings and initiating the EO process.
  • Training, coordinating and evaluating the efforts of Product Engineers, Associate Product Engineers, Engineering Tech's and Co-ops to support department goals
  • Identify areas for producibility and quality improvements in production assembly/test and product design. Initiate these changes and plan for schedule impacts.
  • Assist department manager in interviewing, training, counseling, and preparing performance appraisals for other Product Engineers.
  • Will have approximately 3-6 direct reports comprised of Product Engineers and Engineering Technicians.

Product Engineering Specialist/Lead Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering; with a minimum of 9 years relevant technical experience; or Masters of Science Degree in Engineering; with a minimum of 7 year relevant technical experience; or a Bachelor of Technology Degree in Engineering; with 12 years relevant technical experience
  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Technical expertise in hydraulic or mechanical actuation products or electronics (or related technologies), both top level and subassemblies. Keeping current with the latest developments in the field
  • Detailed working knowledge of hydraulic or mechanical actuation products or electronics (or related technologies) assembly and test areas, including extensive interfacing with technicians
  • Proven experience coordinating and interfacing with customers and/or suppliers on complex projects or issues
  • Strong mentoring skills
  • Proven general capabilities in areas of Root Cause / Corrective Action, LEAN, Project Planning, and Data Acquisition and Analysis.
  • Ability to support evening or early morning teleconferences as required
  • Product Engineering Lead/Specialist must periodically work additional hours to support program goals and product demand
  • Travel - less than 10%
