Position Summary

The specialty operating room technologist supports the department of Surgical Services in the provision of patient care by the coordination of surgical instrumentation, performance of scrub technologist activities and specialty technologist responsibilities. Additional responsibilities include the provision of organizational, communication and assistive skills necessary to facilitate the flow of surgical service activities. These responsibilities include provision of availability/maintenance of instruments, adherence to aseptic technique, advanced knowledge of surgical procedures, and support of resources to patients, visitors, physicians, staff and ancillary personnel. Responsible for the maintenance of specific specialty areas, surgical supplies, order functions, and orientation/training of new personnel and collaboration with the healthcare team towards achieving fiscal and quality care goals and of outcomes for the divisions within surgical services. The position also supports the Materials Coordinator, Administrative Coordinator, Clinical Coordinators, Operations Manager/Educator and Director of Surgical Services in the implementation of surgical services activities.

• Communication to facilitate patient care delivery and unit efficiency
• Perform daily organization of surgical field
• Provide case specific supplies, instrumentation and equipment
• Adheres to and supports the Patient Safety Protocol
• Assist with interments and supplies for surgery schedule (case picking)
• Maintain current/accurate unit information
• Participate in hiring process/performance process as requested
• Assist with computer management of charge process and preference list updates
• Support and assist with staff cross-training
• Assist with instrument room activities as requested

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements

• Graduate of surgical technologist program or military training program or equivalent training
• Two years of experience as a surgical technologist in an acute setting. In lieu of this experience, consideration will be made for staff with strong education and associated experiential background
• Expertise with computer systems and instrument processing
• Knowledge of sterility standards, AAMI and AORN
• CORT/CST certificate required
• College education preferred
