Position Title: Senior Estimator (7E)

Position Summary

The Senior Estimator is an advanced technical and leadership position in the estimating team, which is responsible for driving cost and schedule efficiency and process improvement in addition to the standard job duties of an Estimator. The Senior Estimator collaboratively works with various functional teams to develop project cost and schedule estimates involving Crown Castle wireless and fiber communication networks within a geographical region of the Domestic United States, which may include Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. This position will work directly with Sales, RF Engineering, Fiber Engineering, Implementation, and Real Estate teams to pre-design and develop full scope, costs and schedules for wireless small cell projects for Crown Castle customers. The Senior Estimator will represent Crown Castle in a professional manner in front of customers (internal and external), utilities, municipalities, and contractors; and, be able to communicate and influence across all Crown functional teams, including Executive Leadership, Finance, Product Development, Supply Chain Management, etc.

Essential Job Functions

Pre and post sales tasks to include, but not be limited to:

  • Focus on estimating cost accuracy of engineering and construction of Wireless deployment projects

  • Work with District deployment teams on refining scope definitions for use with Fixed Pricing models

  • Work with District deployment teams to drive down unit rates, schedule timelines and the overall costs and schedule of project builds

  • Review and critique capital estimates generated by others for validation purposes

  • Work with Project Estimating Manager, other regions Project Estimating Managers, and National support teams to refine the Pre-Sales process and tools

  • The ability to create optimal fiber designs and value engineer fiber designs

  • Work with Fiber Engineering team to refine fiber deployment construction costs

  • Add, create, and understand scopes of work for fiber engineering and general outside plant construction for use in pricing estimates

  • Add, create, and understand scopes of work for outdoor small cell network construction for use in pricing estimates

  • Add, create, and understand scopes of work required for constructing indoor wireless systems for use in pricing estimates

  • Manage RFP deliverables and work cross-functionally on scoping optimal designs and defining handoff responsibilities between functional groups

  • Create high level fiber designs utilizing on-line fiber engineering tools

  • Develop cost estimate models within Crown Castle Business Process Management tools analytically from preliminary design data

  • Manage multiple projects and ability to travel to project locations across a geographic region within the United States in the management of scoping all relevant project elements

  • The ability to use spreadsheet tools to combine, bifurcate, dissect and analyze large sets of financial data produced by cost estimate models.

  • Perform post construction estimate analysis and present findings to Finance and Implementation teams


  • BS/BA with preference to Civil, Construction, or Electrical, Engineering Degrees

Experience/Minimum Requirements

  • A minimum of five (5) years of one or more of the following experiences:
    • Outside plant engineering and construction management experience or equivalent

    • Construction management experience with preference to both outside plant and inside plant fiber construction

    • oDAS or Small Cell site design and construction experience.

  • Software Experienced and proficient in using MS Word, MS Power Point, and Google Earth Pro. High level of proficiency using MS Excel.
