ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Evaluates and analyzes credit, income and assets of submitted loan files from the assigned lending division channel.
2. Underwrites and makes an initial decision within 30 days of receipt of the loan to meet the regulatory requirement.
3. Reviews, analyzes, approves and underwrites complex individual consumer requests.
4. Reviews financial statements, credit reports, applicable ratios (DTI/LTV), property evaluation and various other factors.
5. Reviews and analyzes collateral to determine if the property meets the Banks guidelines.
6. Reviews and analyzes loan conditions to make a decision on final approval when applicable.
7. Reviews and analyzes documentation to make a decision on possible denial or denial with a counter.
8. Reviews and approves or declines loans within limits and approves loans prior to submission to management.
9. Assists in identifying, recommending and/or negotiating alternative loan requirements, funding and/or loan structuring solutions.
10. Ensures full compliance with Bank policies and procedures and all State and Federal regulations and guidelines.
11. Communicates regularly with Loan Brokers, Loan Processors, CPAs, Tax Accountants, etc. to resolve complicated or difficult loan transactions.
12. Manages an assigned pipeline; maintains and meets published turn times.
13. Maintains and updates all applicable Underwriting reports. Assists in ensuring that target productivity levels and department goals are achieved.
14. Ensures Banks Risk Vision and Risk Management Policies are adhered to by identifying potential risks including but not limited to: Identify Theft, Elder Abuse, Money Laundering, Fair Lending, and Consumer Privacy.

19. Performs other duties and projects as assigned.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Demonstrates knowledge of, adherence to, monitoring and responsibility for compliance with state and federal regulations and laws as they pertain to this position including but not limited to the following: Regulation Z (Truth in Lending Act), Regulation B (Equal Credit Opportunity Act), Fair Housing Act (FHA), Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA), Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA), Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) in conjunction with the USA PATRIOT Act, Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Customer Information Program (CIP), Right to Financial Privacy Act (RFPA, state and federal) and Community Reinvestment Act (CRA).

  • Intermediate level of work experience, knowledge and training in all loan processing and underwriting activities and terminology.

  • Intermediate knowledge of related state and federal banking compliance regulations, and other Bank lending policies.

  • Intermediate knowledge of title policies and related loan regulations such as RESPA, HMDA and other Bank lending policies on loans to directors.

  • Effective organizational and time management skills.

  • Intermediate skills in computer terminal and personal computer operation; Microsoft Office applications including but not limited to: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

  • Intermediate math skills; calculate interest and percentages; balance accounts; add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals; locate routine mathematical errors; compute rate, ratio and percent, including the drafting and interpretation of bar graphs.

  • Exceptional oral, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions, interpret documents, understand procedures, write reports and correspondence, and speak clearly to customers and employees.

  • Ability to work with limited supervision while performing duties.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND/OR LICENSES:
  • High School Diploma and a minimum of 8+ years related work experience and/or training.

  • Work related experience must consist of underwriting a variety of loan products including, but not limited to, FHA, VA, Conventional, and Jumbo Loan products.

  • Bachelors degree preferred.
