Position Overview



This position will be responsible for electric drivetrain system design for Proterra programs and will support current and future vehicle projects.



Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities



  • Develop and manage drivetrain system integration specifications

  • Lead development of drivetrain DFMEAs and failure analysis to ensure robust design

  • Lead drivetrain system performance specification and define components to achieve performance requirements through system modeling analysis

  • Develop robust vehicle development and validation plans and work with product validation group to ensure product meets customer requirements

  • Support design and release of advanced electric drivetrain and related components for Proterra

  • Lead and implement industry best practices for electric drivetrain design and the use of analytical tools to optimize system performance

  • Works with CAE resources to ensure high performance and efficiency of design

  • Ensure the drivetrain sub-systems are properly integrated with all other vehicle systems

  • Release design math and various other support drawings and works closely with mechanical design group to insure 3D data integrity and drawing accuracy

  • Author statement of requirements as part of strategic sourcing initiatives

  • Support test and field incident resolution for issues related to drivetrain functionality

  • Maintain State-of-the-Art knowledge of electric driveline related topics

  • Implement new technology and the development of future products and scaling of driveline manufacturing

Education and Experience



  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering Required

  • 8+ years of progressive engineering experience within the transportation and/or drivetrain industry

  • Experience with CAE/FEA of electric drivetrain design
  • Commercial bus, heavy truck, automotive or vehicle systems design a plus

  • Vehicle electric driveline design and development experience a plus

  • Proficient in 3D CAD design of mechanical components: SolidWorks and CATIA preferred, UG acceptable

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • Knowledge of design, development, test, manufacturing and assembly operations (DFM)

  • Self-starter with the ability to balance and prioritize

  • Solid people, communication and presentation skills

  • Team player who understands and demonstrates by example the importance of working well with others both internal and external to the organization
