Job Description

The overall mandate of the U.S. Division Strategy and Transformation group is to partner cross-functionally to define, champion, and drive divisional goals in alignment with John Hancock/Manulife strategic objectives and client/customer needs. As a Director in the team, you will be an integral contributor to our mission. In this role, you will partner across business lines to refine strategic objectives, translate our strategies into discrete priorities and drive quality execution of initiatives, and monitor, measure and communicate results. You will report to the Head of Strategy and Transformation.

Accountabilities:

Strateg y (50%)


  • Partner with leadership in support of the divisions strategic discussions, decision making, and creation of divisions strategic objectives and action plans

  • In alignment with strategic goals, assist in research related to evaluation of potential acquisition or partnership opportunities

  • Align strategic goals with a robust view of market/competitive opportunities

  • Lead the creation of materials that bring the divisions growth and business plans to life, for both internal and external audiences, including boards of directors, senior leadership committees, rating agencies and investors

  • Work closely with finance professionals to align strategic goals with financial expense, earnings and savings targets

Transformation (50%)


  • As needed, provide support on strategic initiatives; these initiatives could include select enterprise-focused efforts, multi business unit initiatives, and learning pilots which inform strategic action plans

  • Monitor divisional performance, providing monthly, quarterly and annual reporting

  • Support ongoing communication and change management efforts in alignment with strategic needs

Job Requirements:

  • 5+ years experience in strategy development and execution
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strategies and tactics in collaboration with external (e.g., consultants) and internal partners (e.g., Business Units).
  • Background in management or strategy consulting, business development, finance , marketing , communications, and/or product development
  • Strong drive and initiative, time management and multi-tasking capabilities
  • Superior communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to deliver actionable recommendations based on analysis. Ability to translate analyses, using mediums to drive comprehensible recommendations (e.g., dashboards, graphics, summaries, etc.). E xperienced Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Business acumen in the financial services sector, a plus
  • Bachelors degree in relevant area ; MBA a plus
