Role


Responsible for the day-to-day activities of an assigned team of fiber construction crew teammates. This team has a dedicated focus on construction performed in the field, operating heavy equipment, utilizing various hand tools, and restoration of Crown Castle fiber networks and services that are consistent with all defined standard operating processes and procedures. The position will support the Manager of Fiber Construction and work across other fiber construction teams within the area, as well as provide support to Crown Castle cross-functional teams to improve the quality of processes, deliverables, and the end-to-end customer experience. Each fiber construction team is expected to maintain open communication across all areas of the business and work as a unit with consistency while building, implementing, and restoring or maintaining services; cognizant of fostering the vision and values of Crown Castle. This position is accountable for their assigned team and area for delivering KPIs including but not limited to OpEx spend, MTTR (Mean Time to Repair), % On-Time Install, fiber complete for small cell, and installed enterprise revenue.


Responsibilities


  • Supervise teams of Operators and Technicians in support of the assigned area of responsibility for construction demands, Cap and OpEx management, as well as KPIs.

  • Understanding of heavy equipment and how to operate it safely.

  • How to organize field crews and coordination.

  • Provide a safe work environment.

  • Strong understanding of mobilization to and from assigned work locations each day.

  • Supervision of loading and unloading heavy equipment at a jobsite.

  • Construction materials coordination.

  • How to tow and backup trailers safely.

  • Provide support to the Manager of Fiber Construction for communication with the NOC, Engineering, Field Operations, and Change management teams.

  • Provide support to the Manager of Fiber Construction to monitor and report Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) of deliverables and supporting workflows to measure operational performance, as well as identify and assess areas of opportunity for improved process efficiencies and performance

  • Maintain knowledge of technology in use, and/or under development for its impact or potential impact on the operational business process

  • Provide support to the Manager of Fiber Construction for the assigned areas respective CAPEX and OPEX spend and budgets

  • Maintain quality service by understanding and enforcing organization standards

  • Develop and coach team identifying training gaps and creating career paths for team members.

  • Supervise a team to support necessary network maintenance support 24 hours, seven days a week, 365 days a year

  • Schedule and prioritize the workload of the construction and external vendor resources within an assigned area; coordinate with the Network Construction Manager to integrate with overall project plan.

  • Provide support to the Network Construction Manager in partnerships with utility and municipal providers to streamline permit application, process, and initiatives such as the FCCs One Touch Make-Ready program.

  • Management of external vendors necessary for timely completion and within budget

  • Initial construction reviews in accordance with project specifications.

  • Oversee site construction, managing schedule, and resources on all projects

  • Ensure that all jobs are maintained accurately in a project tracking system with

  • Coordination of all permitting and licensing activities.

  • Development of permit and construction plans

  • Participate in the Vendor evaluation and selection process.

  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with Crown Castle construction standards, processes, and procedures. Act as a key contributor to continued growth and improvement in each of these.

Education/Certifications


  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • B.S in Architecture, Engineering, or Construction related field or equivalent work experience preferred

  • A valid drivers license required

Experience/Minimum Requirements


  • Three (3)+ years construction experience, at least three (3) years direct telecommunications experience or equivalent work experience required. At least two (2) years of supervisory contractor construction experience required, three (3) to five (5) years preferred.

  • 1 year of experience performing (or equivalent work experience):

  • Direct supervision/management of employees

  • Fiber engineering design, splicing and/or construction implementation experience

  • Experience with optical test equipment including OTDR, PMD, Optical Spectrum Analyzer

  • Working knowledge of fiber construction standards (aerial and underground)

  • Working knowledge of NESC, NEC and OSHA standards

Other Skills/Abilities


  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

  • Proven people and project management skills

  • Commercial Driver's License (Class A)

  • OSHA 30 Certification

  • Skid Steer Training

  • First Aid/CPR/AED

  • Strong understanding related to troubleshooting heavy equipment

  • Ability to train others related to construction techniques and methodologies

  • Candidate has a strong background in and a good working knowledge of fiber optic infrastructure engineering, construction, and restoration methods

  • Familiarity with Outside Plant (OSP) and Inside Plant (ISP) installation standards and practices

  • Ability to diagnose work flow problems and institute remedies

  • The individual must possess and employ the highest ethical and business standards and always conduct himself/herself with the greatest degree of professional integrity.

  • Position needs to be able to operate in a fast-paced customer focused environment handling multiple priorities at a time, delivering quality service to diverse user groups and customers

  • Position must be available for emergency support on a 24-hour X 7-day basis

Working Conditions:


Could be required to travel to project sites with exposure to heavy equipment and environmental conditions up to 80% of the time. Works in a normal office setting with no exposure to adverse environmental conditions the remaining 20% of the time.
