Perspecta has an immediate need for a Linux Systems Administrator in South Charleston, WV.

Position will handle a variety of responsibilities including configuring, monitoring and
maintaining RedHat Linux operating systems in a dynamic, virtualized environment.
Responsible for ensuring that all servers operate at optimum levels. Should be comfortable working in a team environment and willing to work flexible hours. On-call and after-hours support is a requirement of this position.

Discuss (within own area of expertise) requirements with a customer, and to challenge and clarify when appropriate. From the requirements, ability to develop a high-level design or plan and then estimate the amount of effort required to deliver, required. Advise the engagement owner about the risks associated with this work package.

Work with a team to provide written responses to technical proposals and/or reports documentation for delivery. Ability to work some nights and weekends and function in an on-call role on a rotational basis, required. Strong technical competencies. Require excellent organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and contribute independently with minimal supervision. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.


A BS/BA degree in degree in computer science or related area of study is required with 5 to 7 years experience or MS/MA degree with 3 to 5 years experience or PhD with 0 to 2 years experience. Will consider years of experience in lieu of Degree.

  • Experience in large scale Production Support Server Environment.
  • Ability to handle Data Center Operations and escalated incidents or high critical tickets.
  • Predict Risk/Impact and participate in Major Changes.
  • Reporting, Performance and Capacity Planning.
  • Ability to work with Venders and Developers to implement application requirements.
  • Technical Transition & Documentation skills.
  • Design, Migration and upgrading of existing infrastructure.


  • RHCSA certification.
  • Ability to administer Linux Infrastructure.
  • Strong Linux/UNIX troubleshooting skills and knowledge of Linux/UNIX management tools.
  • Knowledge of Remote system administration.
  • Troubleshoot the incidents & problems reported on the servers.
  • Provide root cause analysis on the major incidents/problems.
  • Carry out scheduled activities like Daily Checklists, Server reboot, etc.
  • Monitor logs and alerts.
  • Patch management and Antivirus management.
  • H/W Troubleshooting & Vendor coordination.
  • Firmware & BIOS Upgrade.
  • Understanding of capacity planning, performance monitoring & tuning.
  • Require scripting knowledge for scripted installs, experience with using Virtual Center.
  • Strong knowledge of Storage & Networking concepts.
  • Contribute to internal knowledge management system.
  • Experience with VMware is preferred.
  • Experience with Red Hat Satellite and with Cl/CD tools and Automations tools such as Ansible, preferred.
  • Experience with Gitlab and Jenkins will be a plus.
  • Knowledge of any monitoring tools like HP Server Automation (HPSA), New Relic, Site Scope, HP BMC will be a plus.
  • Experience with Apache, Weblogic and jBoss will be a plus
  • PowerShell/PowerCLI Scripting will be a plus.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Enough depth and breadth of technical knowledge to be individually responsible for the design and scope of deliverables within a field of expertise.
  • Ability to perform/drive resolution of problems on combinations and interactions of products.
  • Apply technology and consulting to solve a client business problem.
  • Communicate and present complex issues with assurance and confidence.
  • Demonstrate the use of consulting skills including questioning, listening, ideas development, permission and rapport, and influencing.
  • Conduct/lead oral status/technical interchange meetings with client.
  • Translate technical details into concise and easy to understand written form.
  • Write relevant components of a proposal document (e.g. answer specific RFP questions).
  • Translate verbal requirements from face to face and client meetings into requirements documents, statements of work and proposals.

Position must be filled at Charleston, WV location due to use of HUD client network.

This position requires United States Citizenship and ability to obtain a public trust security clearance.
