MTM, Inc. continues to grow and we are seeking a Systems Database Administrator (DBA)

The Systems Database Administrator (DBA) works with cross-functional teams including server operations, application development and database architects. The DBA promotes a collaborative work environment while performing database administration duties on Microsoft SQL (MS SQL) and MySQL database management systems in support of operations and maintenance of production databases. In addition, the DBA must use their knowledge and expert understanding of software languages, databases and interfaces across MTM, involving any aspect of the MTM portfolio of businesses.

This position will sit in our Overland Park, KS office


  • Serves as technical lead for Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL systems and databases
  • Analyze the needs for new SQL servers and databases; works with application support staff and application vendors to identify requirements; configures new servers, clusters, instances, and databases; implements the required server and database solution
  • Analyze the data backup and retention requirements; configure backup or data replication procedures and scripts; monitors and maintains daily and weekly backups; tests backup and restore capabilities; restores databases as needed
  • Analyzes security requirements for systems and databases; configure database security using Principle of Least Privilege; monitor and maintains database security
  • Analyze server and database performance using tools; research options to improve system performance where needed; implement improvements by recommending tuning or upgrading of servers, memory, CPU, operating system software, and storage
  • Perform advanced performance tuning of SQL Servers and databases by analyzing waits, I/O bottlenecks, long running processes, problem queries, index usage, and storage, and make any necessary adjustments
  • Analyze the need for high availability for each database system; implement clustering, log shipping, mirroring, replication, or other solutions to meet availability requirements
  • Proactively monitor systems, servers, and storage to identify potential problems; research solutions using vendor support, technical documentation, and other sources; recommends or takes corrective action where needed
  • Availability or on call to receive system alerts and emails; respond to calls and alerts after hours as needed to resolve issues
  • Uses VPN or other similar technologies for remote access to perform after-hours system maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Follow change control procedures to obtain approval for all changes to production systems and uses incident tracking system to log issues and resolutions
  • Research new technology such as database software, backup and replication software, security solutions, and disaster recovery solutions; obtains vendor quotes and proposals; submit recommendations and business justification to management for approval
  • Assist with budget process by identifying and scheduling system upgrades and replacements, planning new hardware and software purchases, and projecting ongoing maintenance costs
  • Plan and manage projects such as new hardware and software implementations and upgrades by developing detailed plans, schedules, task lists, and issues lists; conduct project team meetings; provide detailed written project status updates; ensure successful completion of all project work
  • Performs regular software updates to ensure system security, reliability, and vendor support

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
  • Minimum of five years experience in SQL Server Database Administration
  • 3+ years of hands-on Microsoft SQL Server 2012+ experience
  • 5+ years of experience writing DML, DDL, and DCL
  • Minimum of two years experience in Windows Server
  • Minimum of eight years experience with advanced database technologies and platforms
  • 7+ Years of T-SQL scripting experience
  • Experience virtualizing SQL Server using VMWare
  • MCSE or MCDBA Certification preferred
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States and not require work authorization sponsorship by our company for this position now or in the future

  • Strong technical skills in MS SQL 2012/2014 in both clustered and non-clustered environments on virtual hardware
  • Familiarity with Virtual machine experience-VMWare
  • Broad understanding of the advantages and disadvantages of industry methodologies and tools
  • Understanding of application coding tools and processes
  • Familiarity with SSAS, SSIS, SSRS
  • Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality
