Information Technology Generalist / Information System Security Officer

Perspecta Labs Silver Spring, MD is looking for a full-time Information Technology Generalist and Information System Security Officer. The position includes configuration and management of both unclassified and classified IT assets.

Basic Qualifications:

  • B. S. degree in a technical discipline such as Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Security, or Information Technology or equivalent applied experience.
  • Experience with Cyber Security, Information Assurance, or Information System Security
  • Experience with Windows (desktop and server), Linux/Unix (desktop and server), network configuration, firewall configuration, system maintenance, and system compliance
  • Experience with networking concepts, such as DNS, DHCP, SSL, VPN, and TCP/IP
  • Experience with scripting (powershell/bash/python)
  • Experience in troubleshooting in a multi-user, high availability environment
  • Experience in computer repair (desktop and server), troubleshooting, configuration, deployment, and liquidation
  • Ability to respond quickly to audio/visual alerts, such as alarms, calls, or messages
  • Ability to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces
  • Ability to move up to 49 pounds
  • Ability to stand and walk for 8 hours at a time without reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to troubleshoot and analyze a problem independently
  • Self-motivated to solve complex problems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to work successfully with limited supervision
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook)
  • U. S. Citizenship required

Job Responsibilities:

  • Opening, tracking, and closing incident/tasking tickets per established guidelines
  • Provide routine hardware and software support for IT-related issues in a timely and professional manner for end-users
  • Coordinate resolutions for product/service issues, upgrades, and end-user identified problems
  • Manage warranty tracking and warranty calls for IT assets
  • Verify baseline connectivity and debug with external networking team
  • Install hardware and software as required
  • Manage IT Server Room
  • Ensure infrastructure networking and computing systems remain available during production hours
  • Identify root-causes of operational issues and process inefficiencies
  • Provide reports and documentation
  • Monitor security logs for violations and anomalous events; report information security concerns and problems when necessary
  • Improve security efficiency, streamline processes, and work collaboratively with department personnel external to site to accomplish objectives
  • Comply with the ISSO Roles and Responsibilities
  • Continuously maintain a thorough understanding of all configurations, architecture, installed software, accounts (both Operating System and Application), data flows, ports, protocols, and other relevant data for each IT System.

Desired Skills

  • Experience with Risk Management Framework (RMF) to cyber-harden information systems commensurate with customer needs
  • Experience with documentation and technical writing to maintain system configurations and network diagrams
  • Experience with system architecture and system design modeling tools
  • Experience conducting technical trade studies and assessments
  • Experience with vulnerability remediation and system hardening (Nessus, McAfee, WSUS, SCCM, etc)
  • Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) compliance management
  • Active CISSP: Certified Information Systems Security Professional
  • Experience with Authority to Operate (ATO) process, continuous monitoring, POA&Ms, Security Authorizations (SA), NIST 800-37, NIST 800-53 Rev3 / Rev4, working with System Owners (SO)
  • Active TS/SCI with Poly
  • The ISSO must have experience in testing, evaluating, and preparing systems for security certification under National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and Risk Management Framework (RMF) for IS guidance


Requires 5 to 8 years with BS/BA or 3 to 5 years with MS/MA or 0 to 2 years with PhD.
