The Technology Sales Engineer Freight will be an integral part of LB Fosters fast-growing Total Track Monitoring product line. This position will be responsible for identifying and understanding competitive landscapes and recognizing new opportunities for growth. The successful candidate will focus on the Class 1 and Shortline Railroad markets, targeting the Railroads, Rail Consultants, and State DOTs to identify application and funding opportunities that will ultimately develop into revenue. The location of this position is flexible as long as it is located near a major airport.

Essential Functions:

  • Tier one supplier for safety accredited approved technology that is capable of obstacle detection using LIDAR, to control safety critical signaling systems.
    • Rockfall Monitoring

  • Remote condition monitoring (RCM) to be used as a safety critical system. Customizable power (direct, solar and battery) and communications systems for remote applications. Various and unique sensor flexibility including but not limited to:
    • Tilt Sensor (Avalanche/Landslip Detection)

    • Flood Pole (Flood Monitoring)

    • Temperature Sensor (Rail Temperature Monitoring)

    • Microphonic Wire (Bridgestrike Monitoring)

    • Solar Powered Camera

  • Work closely with the customer during the product trial, approvals and installation phase

Support groups/functions:

  • Nottingham, UK

    • Product management

    • Technical solutions

    • After Sales Service & Support (Tier 2)

  • Pittsburgh, PA
    • Application Engineering (Tier 2)

  • Dublin, OH
    • Installation, commissioning and maintenance teams

    • After Sales Service & Support (Tier 1)

Minimum Qualifications:

Skills, Experience and Education:

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering or related field required; Electronics and/or Mechatronics Engineering preferred.

  • 5+ years total experience with 5+ years in sales or customer facing engineering role preferred

  • Class I Freight Railroad industry experience preferred

  • Railroad Communication and Signal experience is desireable

  • Experience dealing with government agencies (FRA, FTA, Federal and State Departments of Transportation, etc.)

  • Ambitious individual with an interest to learn quickly is highly desirable

  • Proven experience with design and documentation of System architecture

  • Experience with the Request for Proposal (RFP) process, contract review, and associated terms and conditions

  • Experience with development of comprehensive technical proposals

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Proven ability to work independently and set priorities to meet requirements for multiple, concurrent projects

  • Ability to travel up to 50% and from time to time on short notice, including internationally

Other requirements:

  • Ability to achieve an 80-90% technical aptitude in LB Fosters Total Track Monitoring product line.
