Job Description

As a laboratory / test technician you will receive work orders and samples to perform testing, with minimal supervision, on products in accordance with in-house test requests and third-party test agency standards and procedures. Such tests include, but are not limited to: temperature, thermal shock, material conditioning, hydrostatic strength, rain, oil-spray, hose down, salt-spray, ground-fault, endurance, vibration, impact, reciprocation, explosion / over-pressure, mechanical overload and lamp aging.

Job Responsibilities

Notify engineering and/or immediate supervisor of incomplete or inaccurate work orders and test samples submitted to lab.

Perform testing on new and existing products, as well as competitor products, in accordance with in-house test requests and third-party test agency standards and procedures.

Provide continuous feedback to engineering on results and any unusual conditions found during testing.

Create and issue test reports in a clear and concise manner.

Document all test results and findings for future reference.

Interface with engineering and other members of the organization to support all product lines and adhere to priorities, deadlines and multi-tasking needs.

Express ideas and solutions and suggest modifications to test plans based on previous testing conducted and experience.

Ensure all testing schedules are followed and equipment calibration dates are met in order to ensure continued compliance with the UL Client Test Data Program (CTDP) and ISO / IEC 17025 Data Acceptance Program (DAP).

As part of the UL CTDP, ISO / IEC 17025 DAP and company requirements and procedures, continue to update lab documentation and test procedures when new methods or changes to third-party test agency standards are introduced.

Facilitate equipment calibration with outside calibration labs.

Order required supplies and any needed test equipment for continued lab operations; within budget and upon supervisors approval.

Maintain lab tools and equipment in a clean and orderly manner.

Maintain lab facility in routine housekeeping and working order.

Perform routine lab security and safety inspections.

Perform other related duties as required.


The candidate must possess an Associate of Science degree in a technical field with a minimum of 3 years in electrical and mechanical product testing, OR have at least 5 years of work experience in the same.

Physical Demands

Will be required to handle moderately heavy (70 lbs.) parts and products in a general laboratory environment.
