Job Summary

The Purdue University Veterinary Teaching Hospital is looking for an enthusiastic credentialed veterinary technicians to add to our Ophthalmology team! If you love all things eyeballs, this position will give you the opportunity to not only learn and increase your skills with Ophthalmology in small animals, but also includes working with large animals and exotics. Your skills as a Veterinary Technicians will be valued and utilized within the hospital and you will also be contributing to the advancement of veterinary research and understanding.

As a Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Purdue staff are used to teaching and training and are willing to provide training and mentorship to the right candidate. Our ideal candidate has a good foundation in basic nursing skills and anesthesia, as well as enjoy client communication and education. Hours are weekday and daytime with some on-call expected.

Purdue University, located in West Lafayette, Indiana, is a beautiful campus that supports both a College of Veterinary Medicine as well as Associate and Bachelor degree programs in Veterinary Nursing. All technicians in the teaching hospital teach and mentor students throughout the year. This posting may be filled at multiple levels (S3 or S4). The hiring manager will determine the job level based on the skills, experience, and qualifications of the selected candidate.

S3 requirements:
Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree from an AVMA accredited Veterinary Technology program

S4 requirements:
Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree from an AVMA accredited Veterinary Technology program
Two years of experience as a credentialed veterinary technician

Required:

  • Candidates must be registered in Indiana within twelve (12) months
  • Ability to work under pressure in emergency situations
  • Good oral/written communication skills; ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to handle the physical and emotional aspect of work in a veterinary hospital environment
  • Ability to lift and carry 25-50 pounds frequently and 60 pounds occasionally

Preferred:

  • Experience in emergency, multispecialty veterinary hospital or veterinary teaching hospital
  • Experience in general practice

  • This was formerly classified as an operational/technical position; an internal lateral transfer will retain same benefit standing
