Job Description

Silicon Valley Bank's Community Development Finance (CDF) team is responsible for executing the Bank's Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) strategy through the origination and management of Community Development Loans and Investments. To date, Silicon Valley Bank hascommittedover $2.7 billion in loans and $1.3 billion in investments that support the new construction or rehabilitation of affordable housing for low-income seniors, families, veterans, individuals with special needs or disabilities, and chronically homeless individuals. With these loans and investments, SVB aims to make a meaningful impact in the communities where we do business.

The CDF team is embarking on an exciting and very large expansion over the next several years.

The Vice President I (VPI) will play a critical role in the Bank's expansion in the San Francisco Bay Area. The individual in this role will be responsible for maintaining a portfolio of client relationships and originating and managing CRA-eligible community development loans and associated proprietary fund investments in order to achieve the Bank's CRA goals. The VPI is responsible for all aspects of loans under their management until they are repaid and is supported by CDF Associates and the CDF Loan Operations team members.

Duties include:

  • Loan Origination: develop pipeline of affordable housing loan opportunities in Northern California market that fit the credit risk profile and strategic goals of the Bank. Oversee preparation and submittal of credit approval packages, and client term sheets. Lead negotiations with client and internal Bank stakeholders. Lead loan closing by overseeing due diligence reviews, loan documentation preparation and negotiation, financial underwriting and structuring, and co-lender negotiations. Oversee regulatory reporting.
  • Loan Portfolio Management: oversee construction progress and approve construction loan draws, monitor covenant and reporting compliance, oversee preparation of annual loan and Sponsor reviews. Prepare credit files for internal audits and external exams.
  • Special Projects: lead initiatives to enhance or further team objectives, including loan infrastructure (i.e. procedures, guidelines, tools), cross-departmental collaboration, or new credit product initiatives.

  • 3+ years of experience related to affordable housing including underwriting and structuring loans and equity investments for multifamily housing funded with Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC).
  • 3+ years of experience in tax credit and/or impact investment, community development finance, real estate finance or other relevant field.
  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field (Master's Degree Preferred).
  • Ability to collaborate with and learn from team members and internal and strategic partners.
  • Ability to multi-task and juggle multiple closings and projects at the same time.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Ability to write in a clear and concise manner to convey complex information.
  • Strong credit and financial analysis skills.
  • Self-motivated and driven.
  • Highly organized with excellent project management skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively.
  • Remote-first work culture; primarily remote work with up to 4-6 meetings/per year in San Francisco SVB office with occasional in-person client engagement to build rapport with customers.
  • Preference for hires in San Francisco Bay Area or Los Angeles; open to out-of-state hires if the candidate fit is right.
