Job Description:

POSITION REPORTS TO: Senior Vice President - Agribusiness Capital

Develop and sustain a portfolio of large complex and diverse Capital Markets assets that meet or exceed quality and income expectations and appropriately utilize Association capital. Develop and maintain relationships with financial partners and industry contacts that provide and enhance ongoing access to Capital Market opportunities. Responsible for all activities involved with identifying acquiring developing analyzing underwriting and on-going servicing of a portfolio of large and complex loan investments (investments will typically exceed $15 million in transactions of $100 million to multi-billion dollars)

EMPLOYEES SUPERVISED:
None. Provide substantial direction and mentoring to Credit Analysts and Operations staff.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential functions of the position include but are not limited to:

1. Develop and sustain a diverse and complex portfolio of large Capital Markets assets that meet or exceed quality and income expectations and appropriately utilize Association capital.

2. Develop maintain and enhance relationships with correspondent and syndicate lenders and large commercial agribusinesses assuring ongoing access to capital market opportunities. Maintain active account and prospective account relationships.
o Grade 27: independently handle even most complex and challenging relationships and provide insight and guidance to less experienced incumbents
o Grade 26: independently handle all but the most complex and challenging relationships
o Grade 24: independently handle moderately complex relationships and loan structures

3. Manage and coordinate a comprehensive sales marketing and investment plan. Develop new and innovative investment alternatives and markets. Grade level 27 employees will provide significant leadership in developing new investment alternatives and markets.

4. Conduct advanced credit analysis and underwriting on large and complex syndicated participated and private placement transactions (ranging in size from $100 million to multi-billion dollars).
o Grade 27: independently handle even most complex transactions and provide insight and guidance to less experienced incumbents
o Grade 26: independently handle all but the most complex transactions
o Grade 24: independently handle moderately complex transactions

5. Participate in selection and approval of loan investments as a voting member of the Association Loan Committee (ALCO). Act on revisions and amendments of credit terms within delegated authorities.

6. Assure appropriate credit administration including monitoring loan performance and identification and management of potential/known risks.

7. Assist in the developing and maintaining Capital Markets and industry specific underwriting guidelines and investment strategies as well as development and maintenance of the Association’s industry and market expertise for key industries financed.

8. Maintain an ongoing knowledge and awareness of current market trends competitive issues and industry developments.

9. Coordinate the Association’s loan purchases and sales to respective financial institution.

10. Provide back-up for capital markets sales side and structuring activities and consultation to other Association teams upon request.

Additional functions of the position may include:
1. Perform other related duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in business or agricultural economics with an emphasis on finance accounting or management. A Masters degree in agriculture or business or advanced certification in applicable disciplines would be helpful. Will most often use skills and judgment on investments that exceed $10 million and may be in excess of Association’s lending authority.

Grade 27: Ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10-12 years of credit experience in a commercial and/or ag. lending industry and a minimum of three years in capital markets or related activities.

Grade 26: Ideal candidate will have a minimum of ten years of credit experience in a commercial and/or ag. lending industry with increasing responsibilities. This experience should include material exposure to capital markets or related activities with large and complex loans.

Grade 24: Ideal candidate will have a minimum of six years of credit experience in a commercial and/or ag. lending industry with increasing responsibilities. This experience should include recent involvement with capital markets or related activities with large and complex loans.
Duties require:

INTERNAL/EXTERNAL CONTACTS:
• Ongoing external contact with Farm Credit System Banks and Associations Wall Street investment banks and brokers commercial banks with national and regional footprints insurance companies and the FCA.
• Ongoing internal contact with Capital Markets staff ABF relationship and credit staff legal counsel finance and accounting personnel Senior Leadership team members special assets officers and internal credit review.
• Frequent contact with the borrower’s executive management teams (CEO/CFO/COO).
• Occasional contact with national/international law firms and Capital Markets industry financial advisors.

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to service broad and diverse industries with in-depth knowledge of specific industries.
• Ability to use computer. Proficient in Windows environment using Microsoft Word Excel Internet Explorer and ability to use and understand various computer software related to carrying out essential responsibilities of the position.
• . This involves reading the screen and keying/typing information.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and effectively demonstrate team building attitude and skills.
• Ability to reason judge compare calculate evaluate and critique such information as written materials numerical data responses to customer needs and/or other work related activities.
• Ability to complete work in an acceptable timeframe and manage a variety of detailed tasks and responsibilities simultaneously and with accuracy to meet deadlines goals and objectives and satisfy internal and external customer needs related to the job.
• Ability to understand and explain various subject matters and consult on concepts programs terminology and methods.
• Ability to operate the telephone and respond to calls and in-person inquiries.
• Ability to move about the office with occasional reaching and bending.
• Ability to successfully interact with and represent the organization to staff officers board members customers industry specialists and the public at all levels.
• Ability to travel by auto or commercial transportation (up to 40% to carry out essential responsibilities).
