Position Description:


Responsible for sales and marketing of the Association’s loans through syndications, participations and other methods. Establish, develop and enhance the relationships and markets for syndicated and participated loan sales. Manage amendments, waivers and refinancing of FCSA’s lead transactions. Stay abreast of market trends and conditions. Provide consultation and direction to relationship teams regarding structure and price for loans. Manage ongoing communication and distribution of information to bank groups. 


None. Provide substantial direction and mentoring to administrative and operations staff. 


Essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to:

  1. Manage sales and marketing of Association originated credits through syndications, participations and other structures. 
  2. Establish, develop and enhance the relationships and markets for syndicated and participated loan sales. 
  3. Manage amendments, waivers, refinancing and other administrative agent functions of FCSA lead transactions 
  4. Establish and execute marketing plans for distinct industries and individual transactions.
  5. Manage the sell down of purchased syndications and participations.
  6. Advise relationship managers on appropriate loan structure, and pricing (including competitive market analysis). 
  7. Advise and develop consensus decisions with relationship managers on appropriate loan structure, and pricing (including competitive market analysis) for loan purchases and sales (and potential sales). 
  8. Assure the Association is appropriately compensated for lending and structuring activities. 
  9. Coordinate sales activities with other relationships with lending partners. 
  10. Serve as back-up for structuring and purchasing operations in Capital Markets team. 
  11. Provide training on capital markets issues to internal and external audiences.
  12. Perform credit and/or industry analysis and consulting for other Association divisions upon request. 

Additional functions of the position may include:

  1. Performs other related duties as assigned.


Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in business, or agricultural economics, with an emphasis on finance, accounting, or management. A Masters degree in agriculture or business or advanced certification in applicable disciplines preferred. Ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10-12 years of credit experience in a commercial and/or agricultural lending industry and a minimum of three years in capital markets or related activities. Will most often use skills and judgment on investments that exceed $20 million and may be in excess of Association’s lending authority.

  • Provide significant leadership in achieving team and Association goals.
  • Proven track record of strong marketing and sales results in a capital markets or syndicated loan markets.
  • Advanced knowledge of complex lending, financial structuring and credit arrangements.
  • Advanced negotiation skills.
  • Strong financial and credit analysis skills, with proven abilities in assessing risk and rewards provided in diverse capital market loan investments.
  • Proven track record of organizing work and exercising well reasoned judgment involving large and complex transactions.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of Association or other similar credit underwriting policies, procedures, processes, and documentation expectations.
  • Maintain expertise in the Capital Markets segment of the financial services industry, keeping abreast of industry trends, competitive market conditions and lending practices.
  • Advanced knowledge of Capital Market issues involving FCA/bank lending regulations, financial reporting requirements (GAAP and FASB), rating agency methodologies, and multi-lender credit facility documentation.
  • Possess broad knowledge of various industries served.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast paced, dynamic environment. 


  • Ongoing daily external contact with Farm Credit System Banks and Associations, Wall Street investment banks and brokers, commercial banks with national and regional footprints, insurance companies, and the FCA.
  • Ongoing internal contact with Capital Markets relationship officers, ABF relationship and credit staff, legal counsel, finance and accounting personnel, senior Association officers, special assets officers, and internal credit review.
  • Frequent contact with the Associations largest borrower’s executive management teams (CEO/CFO/COO).
  • Frequent contact with national/international law firms and Capital Markets industry financial advisors. 


  • Ability to answer telephone conversation and face-to-face conversation to serve customers and give and receive information form staff, vendors, outside consultants and the public.
  • Ability to use computer. Proficient in Windows environment using Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet Explorer and ability to use and understand various computer software related to carrying out essential responsibilities of the position. Speak and make presentations to individuals or groups on technical subjects related to job.
  • Ability to travel up to 40% via auto or commercial transportation to carry out essential responsibilities of the job.
  • Ability to successfully interact with and represent the organization to staff, officers, board members, customers, vendors, and/or the public at all levels.
  • Provide sound technical advice to leaders and other staff in the subject field(s) related to this position.
  • Ability to understand and explain various subject matter and consulting concepts, programs, terminology, and methods.
  • Ability to reason, judge, compare, calculate, evaluate, decide, and critique such information as written material, numerical data, responses to customer needs, and/or other related work activities.
