Senior Welding Engineer:
Complete understanding and wide application of technical principle, theories, and concepts in the field of laser and resistance welding, with general knowledge of other related disciplines. Skilled in most required welding competencies to perform in laser and resistance joining functional area. Works under only general direction. Independently determines and develops approach to solutions. Work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives. Capable of using a structured methodology, authoring innovative solutions (IP, authoring IP), and research and find solutions available in industry. Track record of successful review of completed work including compliance to the quality system.

A Day in the Life:
Works with designers to develop appropriate production tooling, perform critical design reviews and procuring for tooling and equipment
Lead FMEA and risk based discussions / activities, populate heat map, provide input to FTAs
Mentoring of junior staff member, contractors, and interns.
Can execute as LSW and/or RSW technical lead on non-standard weld development activities.
Propose metallographic/ materials procedures for process outputs (sectioning, etching, etc., Confirming around established procedures)
Participate in hypothesis creation, offer viewpoints, create simple theories
Interacts and collaborates with experts within and outside of Medtronic
Representative to leadership on technical content inside of respective group
Recognized and sought out for technical content inside of respective group
Frequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts. Represents the organization in providing solutions to difficult technical issues associated with specific projects.
Contribute to the completion of projects by proactively helping others

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree required
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience
Nice to Have:
BS in an Engineering/Scientific discipline and at least 4 years of industry experience
Basic program management (Work estimation, duration, cost, timing, assist with Gannt chart creation)
Design effective screening experiments (e.g. DOE), translate experiments into transfer functions within a process
Single process owner (Capable of developing of a process)
Provides technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems. Solutions are imaginative, thorough, and practicable, and consistent with organization objectives.
Can execute tactics to functional strategies with minimal supervision
