Overview
The Corporate Counsel serves as an in-house legal advisor to the credit union, providing legal guidance across a broad range of operational, regulatory, and strategic matters. This role focuses on ensuring credit union compliance with laws and regulations governing credit unions, mitigating legal and regulatory risk, and supporting business initiatives. The Corporate Counsel works closely with the Chief Legal Officer, legal team and departments to ensure legally sound decision-making throughout the organization.

Salary range for this position is $159,822.78 - $186,851.34 with a progressive benefit package.
Responsibilities
- Adheres to the Credit Union's core values and Service Standards in conducting GreenState's mission and vision.
- Demonstrates a positive member service (internal and external) focus at all times.
- Demonstrates teamwork in all interactions with coworkers and in the completion of all duties and responsibilities.
- Ensures confidentiality of member information.
- Supports a diverse and inclusive work environment.
- Work directly with the Chief Legal Officer and legal team members.
- Provide legal advice on federal and state laws and regulations applicable to credit unions, including but not limited to Iowa Credit Union Act, NCUA regulations, lending, privacy regulations and state consumer protection laws.
- Interpret regulatory guidance, examination findings, and enforcement actions, and advise management on remediation and risk mitigation strategies
- Review and advise on data protection, confidentiality, information security, business continuity, and subcontracting provisions for the credit union and in vendor agreements.
- Partner with internal departments and vendor management to support third-party risk management.
- Identify and advise departments regarding legal and regulatory risks.
- Serve as a trusted legal advisor to business units.
- Provide training and guidance to internal stakeholders on contract standards and vendor risk considerations.
- Plays a vital role in enriching the community by participating in community service organizations and/or Credit Union sponsored events on an annual basis.
- Perform any other duties as may be required to meet Credit Union objectives.
Qualifications
- A J.D. degree is from ABA accredited school is required.
- 4-8 years of related legal and financial institution experience
- Active license to practice law in Iowa or surrounding state or ability to be licensed within 3 months.
- Experience working with a regulated industry (e.g., financial services, healthcare, technology).
- Familiarity with third-party risk management frameworks and vendor governance programs.
- Experience with privacy, data security, and information security regulations.
- Experience or understanding of vendor management systems.
- The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment which requires collaboration.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills along with attention to detail and accuracy.
- The ability to quickly become a legal liaison and subject matter expert providing support to departments on legal issues.
- Reports to work punctually, works all scheduled hours, and works overtime as necessitated by business demand.
- Proficiency with related computer applications, spreadsheets, word processing, and database applications.
- Must be bondable.
Reporting Relationship
Reports directly to the Chief Legal Officer.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position is not responsible for the supervision of others.
