Position Summary:
The Equipment Operator performs skilled work operating medium and heavy motorized equipment and commercial vehicles. This role supports sewer system maintenance and operations by safely transporting materials, assisting with infrastructure work, and maintaining equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate a wide range of heavy equipment and commercial vehicles
Load, haul, and manage materials and supplies
Use hand and power tools to complete assigned work
Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment
Maintain inventory and ensure equipment readiness
Follow established procedures to complete skilled labor tasks
Maintain a safe and organized work environment
Adhere to all safety standards and operational guidelines
Document completed work accurately
Provide customer service and assist other departments as needed
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent
1 to 3 years of experience in construction, utilities, or heavy equipment operation
Required Licenses and Certifications:
Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
Required CDL endorsements within 6 months of hire
Department of Transportation (DOT) medical certification

Work Environment:
This position involves outdoor work and operation of heavy equipment in a variety of conditions. The City of Columbia provides training, equipment, and safety protocols to ensure employees can perform their work safely and effectively.
Additional Requirements:
Must establish and maintain residence within 50 miles of Columbia within 90 days of hire
Must be available for occasional on-call or emergency response
